Neil, I am coming to the Uk Feb.28, Saturday. I didn't get much notice. I
was wondering is this the proper forum to throw a few ?'s out like: If you
had 4 days in England is 1st of all London the place to be as far as Kinks
related sights & history. Maybe I should rephrase that and asked the
members : Where would you go if you had 4 days in England & you are as
absolutely Kinks consumed as myself. I'm sure I would enjoy meeting kps
members, like minded folks that could tell me a few stories & I have a few
of my own. I'm sure this type of thing has come up in the past.Best
Pubs, restaurants, is there any open mics I could share my songs at, Should
I "walk down the Abbey Rd."? Tell me what you think Neil. Thanks for kps I
enjoy it so much, it is the only publication I read consistently.
Cheers, Michael C. Tekeli

Subject: Dave Davies Galaxy Show Review (30-Apr-97)
I had submitted a review of the Galaxy show and it is available on the Kinks
Web site:
kinks.it.rit.edu/misc/review-97-04-30.html
Review - Dave solo, 30 April, 1997, Galaxy Theatre, Santa Ana, CA
David Davies (backed by LA Band Andrew)
This show was very similar to the Luna Park show. Dave was a little more
relaxed on stage but still depended on a music stand to read the lyrics for
some of the songs. The place was about half full and with the dinner
seating style it was not too intimate. I was able to get right up next to
the stage center. I also saw some familiar faces from the Luna Park show.
There were two highlights for me: 1) Dave finally played a solo tune,
Imagination's Real and 2) got to hear Unfinished Business a new solo song
to appear on a new album and maybe on "Kinks Anthology".
Prior to the show, a tape was played that had Misty Water (from the Great
Lost Kinks Album) and Unfinished Business. I was told that the tape is an
excerpt from the upcoming "Kinks Anthology".
Before starting Picture Book, Dave asked if there were any requests, I
yelled out "Nothing More to Lose" from is first solo album. He turned to
me and said, "That's a good one".
After the show I grabbed the Bass Guitar's song list. Here is what was and
was not played:
Chaze K - Opening guitarist
LABEL - Opening band
1. I Need You
2. Beautiful Delilah
3. She's Got Everything
4. Look Through Any Doorway
5. Susannah's Still Alive
6. Creeping Jean
7. Love Me Till the Sun Shines
8. Milk Cow Blues
9. Imagination's Real (from Dave's 1st solo album)
10. Wicked Annabella
11.Picture Book
12.Strangers (excellent rendition)
13.Too Much on My Mind
14.Death of a Clown
skipped: Sea of Heartbreak
15.Get Back in Line
16.Fortis Green (new Dave Song)
17.Living on a Thin Line
18.Dead End Street
19.I'm Not Like Everybody Else (a jamming piercing version)
20.All Day and All of the Night
21.Money
22.David Watts
____________________________________
23. Unfinished Business (new Dave song)
skipped: One Night
skipped: My Way
skipped: Little Queenie
24.You Really Got Me
Cheers,
Rob Peirson

Thanks to those folks who wrote in with the kind words about our early
shows with Dave. The venue is West Hollywood was called Luna Park and that
was actually the second time we backed Dave with the first being the
benefit concert Andrew Sandoval, Paul Rock and I organized a year and a
half before at the Mogan Wixson Theatre in Santa Monica. There is video of
that show out there if you get a chance to dig? around the web. I also
have to say we did more than a few gigs the first couple of tours that
were sparse on audience, yet very high on enthusiasm . We are forever
indebted to the East Coast fans in particular that made the trek with us
at almost every stage of the dates and were travelling as if on the road
too! Frank, Rafaela and the gang were troupers.

I've posted the playlist from my all-Kinks radio show here:

See if you can pick out the blues set, the politics set, the
songs-about-vacations set, the half hour of Dave Davies songs...
The instrumentals from *Percy* and *Village of the Damned* served as
music beds while I spoke on the air. I would've used the theme from *The
Virgin Soldiers* too if I'd had it handy.

Subject: Rocketship to Mars
I'm behind on my TV viewing (we're in the process of moving to a new place
by Saturday - eek!), but I finally saw the "Life on Mars" episode with
"Supersonic Rocketship" last night.
Wow, wow, wow! That was awesome! You heard pretty much the entire song,
and it fit perfectly with the scene of possible alien abduction.
I love this show - and the fact that they love the Kinks makes me love it
even more. Which,of course, means it'll be canceled any day now ...
BTW, the rock star in the episode (Sebastian Grace) reminded me of a cross
of Alice Cooper and Screaming Lord Sutch, with some obvious Bowie
tendencies. And I laughed when the missing girl's dad speculates that
she's gone to Morocco - that has to be an homage to "Almost Famous."
"When we go to Morocco, I think we should have completely different names
and be completely different people ..."

> Kinks Concert Blends Artistry and Appeal
The Kinks have been a leading rock `n roll band for nearly 10 years
now, and their appearance Friday night at the Fordham University
gymnasium in the Bronx made it clear that they are still one of the
finest groups around- Aerosmith, the opening act, played loud,
derivative rock, distinguished only by Steve Tyler's fawning imitation
of Mick Jagger.

I don't have that particular compilation, but it's probably their BBC
radio version of the song from 6 Aug. 1965 (broadcast 30 Aug.). The
same BBC track turns up on various other boots, often under its real
name, "Hide and Seek." It's a Big Joe Turner cover.

Great to hear you request played and to hear your story. I notice that The Kinks appeared at the Spennymoor, Top Hat on the 20, 21, 23, 24, 25 & 26 October 1968. Amazing that they should have so many nights in a small town night club.
I live in Sherburn, east of Durham, so very near to you and saw them play at Sunderland Empire in the 60s 15 March 1969, I think. I got this info from Doug Hinman's book. Something doesn't ring true though, in the fact that there were a few groups in the concert, one of them being Desmond Dekker and The Aces. Doug's book doesn't suggest this as the appearance listed was part of a folk festival!
