these older messages out while I can. I have no idea whether I'll be
able to do any more this week. Thanks for the kind notes.
Kinks is compiled with Digest 3. (John Relph <relph@tmbg.org>).

I have seen snippets of video from this show. It looks and sounds great.
Is it available in audio or video?

Subject: Rolling Stone "lists" issue
The latest Rolling Stone includes lists of top songs in various
categories, picked by musicians of all sorts. No list of top Kinks songs or
anything like that, and no lists picked by Ray or Dave, neither of which is
too surprising; but the Kinks did show up in at least one place. Tom Petty
picked his 10 or 15 favorite or most memorable songs from the British
Invasion (all from 1964 and '65, if I remember correctly), and he had You
Really Got Me at No. 2. The only thing ahead of it was the single of I Want
To Hold Your Hand/I Saw Her Standing There, which in all fairness was
obviously the most important of them all, so that's a pretty good ranking
for YRGM. He also tells a nice story about the first time he heard it played
at some kind of dance club, and the crowd actually stopped dancing to
applaud.

Just a bit of a fun history note on that zydeco song that Ray comes on
stage to...
As Simon mentioned, the song is "Zydeco Sont Pas Sale" by Clifton
Chenier. This is in fact the song from which the name "zydeco" came.
The correct French name/lyric of the song would be "Les Haricots Sont
Pas Sales" ("The beans are not salted"), and of course "les haricots"
is phonetically morphed into "zydeco" and the genre gets its name.
