The Buzz Club, held in the Barnet Football club house is a new music
venue for Pete Feenstra, who runs regular music events in London. There
was a reasonable crowd who were very appreciative of our lads. As there
was no stage, the band were placed at the entrance end of the building
(the bar being at the other end), on the same level as the audience,
although there was a raised level to the left with tables and chairs on
it. This was fine for those who didn't want to get on the floor and move
about and sing (which can both be done at once!), but for those of us
used to a bit more action at the KOKs gigs, the floor in front of the
band was the only place to be. It was a bit strange to be on the same
level as the boys - rather like being on the stage with them!
Songs as played, sung By Dave Clarke, unless stated otherwise
WHATGTG?
Victoria
David Watts
Gotta Move (Jim - who says this is one of the finest R & B type songs
that Ray has written)
DOAC
Days (Ian)
Stop Your Sobbing
Celluloid Heroes
Sunny Afternoon (Jim)
Muswell Hillbillies (Ian)
Lola
TTEOTD
WRM (Ian)
DFOF (Mick, with Ian on drums - is there no end to this man's talents?)
Dead End Street
Still Searching
Come Dancing (Ian, Jim and Dave)
VGPS
Tired of Waiting
Apeman (Ian)
Shangri La
YRGM (Jim)
Good Golly Miss Molly (Dave was asking for suggestions and I came up
with that one! :-) )
ADAAOTN (Jim)
At times Ian found it difficult to read the words, sing and play the
keyboards - which does seem a bit awkward - but I'm sure he'll get used
to it. He's one clever bunny!
Jim saw me making notes and thought I was giving them points out of ten
for their performance! I wasn't sure what to think when he glanced at me
when he sang *big fat mamma*.......LOL!
Debi will be at the Sutton gig this Saturday and the Eel Pie Club on
April 1st. I hope some more fans turn up to these gigs.

Subject: April Fools Idea
Hi All,
I thought for April Fool's Day maybe some of our more creative members could
have some fun. Or not. Whatever.
Have you heard of "Spoonerisms"?
"spoonerism \SPOO-nuh-riz-uhm\, *noun*: The transposition of usually initial
sounds in a pair of words. Some examples: We all know what it is to have a
half-warmed fish ["half-formed wish"] inside us. A well-boiled icicle
["well-oiled bicycle"]. It is kisstomary to cuss ["customary to kiss"] the
bride. Is the bean dizzy ["dean busy"]? When the boys come back from France,
we'll have the hags flung out ["flags hung out"]! Let me sew you to your
sheet ["show you to your seat"].""
Can we do this with Kinks song titles? I double dog dare you to try (and
who says that we Americans are juvenile?)
robert
Ps. I've Sewn a Costume to Your Face (From the song "I've Grown Accustomed
to Your Face")
Psss. I figure, once we've got the odd title, we are only a red hair away
from doing a parody song, and won't THAT please Ray!!

Mr. DJ played lots of Kinks last week, giving Dave Davies some love,
playing "Death of a Clown" twice. Then they played "Victoria," "Get Back
In The Line," "David Watts," "Waterloo Sunset," "Australia," and "Working
At The Factory."
And on a show called "Tom Petty's Burried Treasure" Mr. DJ Tom Petty
played the Kinks' version of Sleepy John's "Milk Cow Blues." I simply
adore that cover! Tom Petty always plays Kinks, perhaps he has a possible
"man crush" on Ray??? I know I do!

I second that emotion (from Kinkette Fiddy Figh) regarding ayrton's
parody...well done, my kinky friend. "Oh, for he's a jolly good fellow
(repeat umty umpt times)."
I missed the Austin City Limits re-airing, as I apparently I don't read
thoroughly. That's something I might want to fix.
Things are really sucky financially for us San Diegans. Therefore, I am
going camping to the mud caves in the Anza Borrego Desert. Or Dessert,
whatever. Look it up.
Oh, and Mr. Sarkisian chimed in....and I was wondering if he was related to
"Cher," whose real last name is Sarkisian? And, I say randomly, Ross
Bagdasarian was behind The Chipmunks. ALVIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember seeing this clip as a young kid. I must have been 9 or 10 and was
already a fan. As a child I found this clip very funny and my brother and
sister who are both older also had a good laugh. A pity about the poor
quality but thanks for showing us the way on youtube Simon! It brought back
good memories.

Who would've thought the Kinks would be prophets? Lo these 30 years[not
until July 10th 2009] since the release of what I think is the best
summarization of the world economy; America, her-self's bankrupt internal
policies, and yet another disastrous presidential administration[you'd of
thought that "lameness" would've been learned from the 4 years of Jimmy
Carter!]. Yet the American people prolonged 'the agony' for double that with
GWB2. This confirms my opinion that Republicans are Masochists! What goes
around comes around. And by pure coincidence I'm reading Conrad Black's epic
biography on Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Champion Of Freedom; In it FRD says
in 1921 after Warren Harding was elected: 'the only way the Democrats are
going to get back in power is when the Republican ruin the economy.'
It's all here in purely political revauch-able late 1970s parables that if
listened to today sound outright Churchillian?
Clemenceau commented on Wilson's 14 points that this is going to be a 20
year respite! You can talk about your Preservation's' Acts I & II; You can
talk about your VGPS; But Low Budget has got it spot on. Perfectly within
the cross hairs. Right on target.
I've always had a total love of this album. After this album and the Kinks
powered up for the 1980s I somehow lost them. Aside from the live album that
seemed a little over the top at the time. Low Budget seemed to encapsulate
the disintegration of Western moral, economic, and foreign policy values.
And so a referent to it now seems somehow appropriate. It of course echoes
back to Everybody's In Showbiz in its chimeric sort of way. Like the Roaring
Twenties EISB musically articulate, Low Budget is the collapse. 1929. 1979.
2009! See The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald; The movie was popular in
the early 1970s.
Yes a thesis could be written and sustained by comparing each song on Low
Budget to the state of the American nation left by Jimmy Carter and George
Walker Bush II. The generational differences are nominal; The moral,
economic, and foreign policy issues are virtually identical. But China and
Russia are "game players" now.
