Subject: RE: KPS - Ray's shows next week postponed
According to Dave Emlen's site, all four of Ray's shows are cancelled
here in the northeast. The reason cited is "health concerns". I truly
do hope Ray is OK, but one has to wonder if slow ticket sales hastened
the decision. It's been known to happen before.
I did a quick check of some ticket sites for the Beacon NYC show, and
each offered up to 100 tickets, at or even below box office price, many
in excellent locations. I thought the prices for the Beacon show were
quite on the high side to begin with and coupled with it being
Thanksgiving Eve, demand may have been lackluster. I guess the feeling
is...if we only are doing four shows, we need to maximize on ticket
prices. This is sheer conjecture on my part and I may be wrong. I hope
RD comes back as fit as a Stradivarius ASAP.

Due to health concerns, Ray Davies will not be appearing at the Kimmel
Center on Saturday, November 27. A reschedule date is in the works and
all tickets for the November 27 concert will be honored. Check back to
this page for updated information.
The odds are that all the other shows are also postponed. >>

i just called Ticketmaster re the Beacon Theater show and they're telling me
that so far the show's still on. I guess we'll have to wait and see what
develops.
Hope, Ray's ok.

Subject: Dessoff Choir website says the tour is off
On the Dessoff Choir webpage
www.dessoff.org/new/2010/10/dessoff_to_back_ray_davies_in.html
they have added the following message:
"ALL tour dates CANCELLED due to illness. If you've already purchased
tickets, please contact venues to determine refund policy."
I presume it is up to the venue as to whether the tickets will be good for
a future date or whether you need to get a refund. The Kimmel Center
(Philly) page, as previous mentioned, is anticipating a future date
and is honoring the November 27 tickets. I have not seen any reports from
the other three venues. (The links to the concerts on the other sites
make it appear that those shows are still on.)

Hi Kinklings,
Last night was kind of magical here in London. Geoff Lewis and I had
brought some instruments to Muswell Hill in hopes of singing a few Kinks
songs. We were unsure whether any of the pubs would let us have a bit of
a jam. In the Clissold we got a table and looked at all the Kinks
memorabilia, which is absolutely stunning, by the way. The new owner has
really gone all out. There's Kinks stuff on all the walls, ceilings,
embedded in the tables, everywhere.
Super fan Jane was with us, and pointed out that the Crouch End Festival
Chorus often stopped in on Friday nights after their rehearsals. Well,
in they came for food and drink. Eventually we got up our courage and
started singing a few Kinks songs (with the owner's permission).
Amazingly, the chorus started to join in with their parts. The place was
rocking!
I couldn't believe my luck. Singing in the Clissold Arms with the Crouch
End Chorus, the whole pub singing along. We played about 20 songs, I
reckon. The owner George was quite entranced. He doesn't know much of
the Kinks material, but he's interested. My favorite moment was belting
out the lead vocal to Dedicated Follower of Fashion and having the whole
place answer back. Beautiful.
Thanks to Jane and Geoff for helping make it happen. A great night in
the Big Black Smoke.

Neil, thanks for forwarding 3488. It would have been a shame to miss the
Flowers in the rain video within. Simply put, it is a masterpiece. Rafaela

No,I agree with you on this. I've listened to See My Friends and it
does absolutely nothing for me, much the same way the Kinks Choral
Collection left me cold. I actually gave away that CD to a friend. I
love Ray Davies as a beloved figure, musician, and a huge part of my
musical upbringing but if I'm going to listen to anything collaborative,
or even solo, it will be Dave's stuff.
I fear that Ray is one step away from opening a Kinks-themed dinner
theater in Branson. However, to his credit, I did admire the theatrical
work he created. That was certainly worthwhile.
It's not that I blame Ray for going the reworking/rehashing/recycling route.
He's paid his dues and deserves success, in any form
it comes to him. I just won't listen to it or buy it.

Rob - I totally agree with you.....I don't like the CD either apart from
Mumford & Sons and maybe Metallica (for sentimental reasons), and I
previously mentioned that 'Lola', for example, sounds just awful and some of
the others too.......I have never been a great 'fan' of cover versions with
a few exceptions.
And Ray's best collaboration is still with Dave..........but that will never
happen again............
Looking forward to seeing the 'Kast Off Kinks' in 10 days time, and many of
our friends J!!!

<<I won't dwell too long on the Davies record, which features remade
versions of old Kinks' classics and lots of guest vocalists, from
Springsteen to Metallica to Billy Corgan. Really, the less said about it
the better. In fact, so unsettling was the experience while listening to
this quasi-tribute disc that I immediately reached for Bon Jovi's
Greatest Hits as a sorbet, which shows you how bad things were.>>
Personally, I'm not buying Ray's CD because I'm retired and I don't listen
to anyone called 'the Boss' (barf!)
Ray, you've let me down.

rather than this project, so you are not alone. donl

I find that Ron has a good point. One more farewell (not a Who or Eagles
type "farewell" but a true farewell) concert, maybe even of a pay podcast
type, that would have pre-orders to gauge the interest, there would have to
be some true mass marketing for the event (maybe even have celebs come out
and do some word of mouth adverts and of course the late show interviews).
Maybe donate a portion to a charity both brothers could agree on (if that
were possible).
Just who would the backup band be though? Would it be Mick or Bob? Ian and
Jim or John and Baptist? That maybe harder than getting the brothers
together, finding the right "band" members.
Anyway, I digress. I agree that perhaps Dave's health may prevent this from
becoming a reality or that if one concert is given the demand for more may
become even bigger. But as the saying in show biz goes, "leave them wanting
more."
The benefits to a podcast is that it can be a one off show that can be seen
around the world. They would never even have to leave the UK or wherever
they could find to hold the show.
I know this is just wishful thinking, but when one talks about the band that
is sometimes all we have.

Bob, this reminds of last Thanksgiving, when I went to my girlfriend's house
for the traditional dinner and her cousin's fiance had too much to drink and
tried to fight with me and then vomited and passed out. We were the only
two males there (amongst 10 women of all ages) and they commiserated with
me, standing over his prostrate figure, and they thanked me for not ruining
the dinner by fighting, and for being such a wonderful damned person. I
said, "You are welcome. Pass the peas, please."
What I mean is, I've been accused many times of putting everyone into a
'downer' state of mind, but I look like Ms. Mary Sunshine when standing next
to you. [?]
