I was listening to AGE OF THE WHEEL again today, actually several times, and it always makes me smile I would love it when one of the songs came up randomly in my iTunes during one of our many late night chatting sessions. Today, with each replay, my mood improved. ;D BTW.. Lucy Knows the Truth (but she cannot tell) is a favourite as is Crazy Brother Bob. I'm sad that there will be no follow-up disc, but thankful that Tom left this part of him, for us to share, always. LOVE ON YOU TOM! thanks for the choons!
;D

I have a TAG story. He came to chicago to see Ray on April 2nd 2006 at the Vic Theatre. He got there early as had a lot of us from the Gray board. We had a blast waiting literally for hours before showtime to guarantee our spots right up front. Inside TAG sets up right in front of Rays mic up against the stage. I'm right behind him to his left. I notice TAG having a huge smile on his face for most of the evening. Ray is clearly someone that he admired greatly. During the acoustic portion of Rays set he plays Village Green. There a line that goes "And Daisy's married Tom the grocer boy" and then Ray would pause and ask the crowd "And do you know why?" TAG was right on it and sings out loudly "because he owns the grocery!" It was classic. Ray smiled and pointed to TAG to give him props and said "That's right." TAG had a blast that night as did I. It was a great show. This is all captured for posterity on an audio bootleg of the show (which I can't find!) If anybody has the capability to post an mp3 of this on the board it would be very cool. hey question... i got this from you ?

Hey guys, I am still real bummed about the news, but thought I'd share my post from the "grey" board over here as well. Rest in peace, Tom.

WOW. I am just shocked and saddened. I was really active on here around the times of OPL and a bit before and after, and TAG was always one of my favorites on here. Like many of you, we shared a love of all things musical together and had very similar tastes. I see mention of Big Star on here, and he was always right there to help wave the flag of this band that everyone should know. That's a pretty good barometer of good taste IMO, and we just moved forward from there.
Judging from his posts, he appeared to love kick ass guitars, both visually and aurally, pretty girls, great beers and liquors, great music and classic literature. Sounds pretty rock and roll to me! And as many have mentioned he had great wit and interesting insights in most of his posts.
I didn't know him very well, just what I hope was a mutual admiration here on the board and with our music. We did trade our latest CDs of original material with each other, though, which I thought was pretty cool. He said really nice things about my record, but not just BS - you could tell they were typical insightful TAG responses. I thought his stuff was great too, particularly the voices and guitars on his record (he thought the guitars were too muddy!?!? - heh).
We discussed that if he ever came down to Austin, we'd have to get together and imbibe and sing and play a few. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll get that chance as soon as I was hoping. My loss. My last ten or so inboxes were from him, and it's kind of nice to reread them as if he were still here.
In seeing those pictures posted above, I remember when I saw them after he initially posted them, thinking to myself, "man, this dude looks pretty rock and roll" - I'd like to think Tom would have liked that.
Sorry for my ramblings, but hell, I just wanted to share some memories of a guy I admired, valued his opinions, and just basically liked very much. So long, Tom - you will truly be missed. We'll play together a little later.
Thank you Rosemaryrose for letting me know - I very much appreciate your notice.
*he had "Suddenly" as a middle name? That's just too cool!!!
I think I'll spin a little Big Star tonight in his honor.....

This is a picture of the floral arrangement that I sent to the church from Kevin and myself. The Age of the Wheel -- this is as close as I could get! No one could make me a Blue Strat I wish I could have included a KinKs sticker.. but then maybe someone attending can add that special touch. LOVE ON YOU TOM I bless the light that shines on you!
