Uncle just mentioned in another thread some new CD purchases -- I thought this might be worth its own thread.
Today I bought Port of Morrow, the new Shins album, and pre-ordered M. Ward's Heartland Companion.
Anybody else?

Mr. L, I've already given the whole set two listens and like a lot of it very much. The amazing thing is that you could easily put together another wonderful 4-CD set with the songs they didn't get to. (I hope I'm not repeating myself and already said this somewhere...)

I got my new copy of Phobia and had a great time playing it. Mrs Uncle liked it but thought it was over produced.
I thought it was great and one of their best.
Also recieved El Camino by the Black Keys. It was so great Mrs Uncle went out and bought two more BKs albums, Brothers, and another whose name I cannot recall right now.
Im still waiting for my Iggy Pop cd.

My most recent purchases were made at live shows here in Columbia, Mo.: the latest CDs by the blues singer Janiva Magniss and by former local girl Hilary Scott and her band, the New County Line. Both put on great shows and I'm enjoying their CDs. These names may mean nothing to you, but the point is: Support your local venues and local artists! I don't do it enough myself.
One more recent purchase: Chris Smither's "What I Learned in School," an EP of rock-n-roll covers that is available only from his website. I discovered Smither when he opened for the Roches at the South Street Seaport in New York lo these many years ago and knocked my socks off. The EP is fun!

I totally agree, Gary -- I've never been sorry when I bought a CD at a show. Plus it makes the artists really feel like they connected with you.
I saw that Chris Smithers is releasing a new album soon. It sounds great. I've been meaning for a while to listen to more of his stuff.

One thing I like about Smither is that, like Randy Newman, he enunciates just enough for you to understand what he's saying. No wasted energy!

I was not that pleased with my Iggy Pop cd. It was ok, but nothing near the quality of Phobia!
Ray and Dave have it all over Iggy.
