It was such an extraordinary thrill to watch that match. Afterward, Luis, when they were showing video of the crowds celebrating in Madrid, we peered at the screen hoping to catch a glimpse of you -- with a flag draped over your head, perhaps, dancing in a fountain. ;D Anyway, my son recognized the place where they were celebrating and remembered you pointing it out to us on our driving tour of Madrid!

Thanks everybody for your support to Spain!
There was a very big celebration in Barcelona too, much more than I expected, but of course it can't be compared to Madrid. The images Holly says were amazing.
I think every Euro/World Cup people have expected Spain to win, we always said "this is the time, now we'll sure make it", and now we were more humble than ever and there was a general feeling that we wouldn't do anything. People wasn't as excited about the Euro as other times (of course this changed when we played with Italy) and that has helped us to win.
I had always seen the national team come back crying, good to see at last we made it!

The better team definitely won yesterday. Spain is no longer the perennial underachiever. While I stated at the beginning that I was rooting for Germany, it would have been hard to see them win that game as Spain was definitely the best team the entire tournament.
I have to add that my beloved DC United put on an excellent show against David Beckham's LA Galaxy in the first game of the doubleheader on ABC yesterday. We won 4-1. After seeing that game, I didn't much care who won the Euro final.
But, I have really enjoyed being able to watch these games on TV here in the States. Word from the broadcaster is that they're delighted with the viewing numbers here. Also, there were lots of places around town packed with people watching the games. It seems like football may be catching on as a spectator sport around here.

The English football season is upon us again. Meanwhile, so is World Cup Qualifying. The US plays Cuba in Cuba on Saturday.
