Hello everyone, I have recently recieved some emails requesting that improvements be made to these boards. It is fantastic to see such a great community here and I never imagined there would be so many posts this quickly on the forum. Therefore before I make any changes I thought I would throw it open to all of you to leave any suggestions you may have. Obviously I can't promise to deliver them all, but I will certainly do my best! I will leave this thread open for posting suggestions in until the end of next weekend when I will begin to implement these changes. I hope this helps and I look forward to hearing your ideas.
Aeron

A few alterations to the profanity filters? So we can talk about Charles Dickens - case in point Maybe only allow registered members to post, or if possible have those generated codes that they have to enter before submitting a post, so that spammers are foiled? Aside from that it seems fine to me!

I wouldn't mind seeing the EXALT/SMITE feature disabled...some have felt slighted at times But before you do this...I've EXHALTED you for your kind offer to help! GOD SAVE THE KINKS and all those who adore them!

Thank you very much Aeron. ;D A ColoUr change would be good for the main board. Many of us have figured out how to change the SKIN colour.. but guests still have to see RED Yes, the GUEST SPAMMERS must GO! A few Catagories (seperate sections) would be good.. IE: NEWS, TOURS DATES, MISC, MUSIC ONLY et al... Smiley

I agree with the end of the karma/smite-peoples feelings have been hurt. I think catagories would be nice as well.
Spammers must be eliminated

The spammers are a problem. Deleting their messages on a regular basis would make reading the board easier.
Separate topic categories for News, The Kinks, Other Music (or What Are You Listening To), and Miscellaneous Chat would be good. Maybe a topic where members could post their own artwork and music and links to their creative efforts?

Separate topic categories for News, The Kinks, Other Music (or What Are You Listening To), and Miscellaneous Chat would be good. Maybe a topic where members could post their own artwork and music and links to their creative efforts? The simple answer is to allow only members to post. That would exclude spammers who never join. I realize that this solution would not make everybody happy, but...

you also can make a kind of uploading section for pictures.....thats easier, because you don`t have to open your photobucket always, you can upload pictures from your desktop

Hi Aeron, Good to see you here. The reason for you gaining so many new members and posts in such a short time is because the 'moderator' of the gray board (formerly known as the Ray Davies Official Forum) announced, among other things , that he no longer worked for Ray and that the gray board wasn't official. As other members have already posted elsewhere, Ray expressed a wish that people stopped posting there. Former members moved to your board as it's official. I would say one of the most important things, more important than 'ironing out the kinks' ;D, is for your board to learn lessons from what happened on the gray board and that this place to be properly moderated - anything against the rules needs to be nipped in the bud before things get out of hand. Having read previous messages in this thread, I would agree with guinevere that the censored words function needs to be amended so that only genuine profanity is censored. If that's difficult then I think having asterisks replace the offending words is preferable to changing words to 'thingy'. The solution to some of the spam would have to be, as davek said, only allowing registered members to post. I am posting this message not signed in and there already is a security check asking me to copy the generated letters and numbers before I post. The spammers are obviously entering the correct code so they must be humans (or similar) copying and pasting their links, rather than the spam being computer generated. Further, I realise this would cause a bit of work for you, Aeron, but I would recommend deleting all the posts of the spammers (and blocking their IP addresses to hopefully stop them registering as members) as the links in their posts change the advertising on these boards and appear to attract their fellow spammers to the threads with their posts in. Agree with rose and nancyb - disabling the karma/smite feature, as has been done on the Ray Davies proboard, seems sensible. Also agree with ilesofsmiles, nancyb and hollyh that extra categories/boards would help - maybe this one could become 'Miscellaneous', and have new boards added above for on-topic categories about The Kinks, the fan club etc. Re franzie's suggestion of having a photo upload section, not wanting to be a killjoy but the rules when we become members are very clear that we're not to post copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by us. I can't remember the exact words of warning but it did say something like 'legal action can and will be taken' so a photo upload section would have to be very carefully monitored to make sure none of the content breached any rules or copyright law - fans have already lost one home, don't want this place closed down by the proboards people! On another thread here, a member has discussed you handing over the keys to some of the members and letting them make changes and moderate - this was suggested by the moderator on the old Ray Davies gray board and was one deciding factor in members leaving that place. Thank you for asking for our suggestions and good luck with the improvements.

Hi Aeron, As other members have already posted elsewhere, Ray expressed a wish that people stopped posting there. Former members moved to your board as it's official. Ray has not told the general public this wish. I would like to know what makes this board official Aeron. It says Official but how is that qualified or authorized? Thanks

Ray has not told the general public this wish. I would like to know what makes this board official Aeron. It says Official but how is that qualified or authorized? Thanks Does Ray ever tell the general public anything? As I understand it, Ray told certain chosen members/floozies/crows from the old gray board this wish and they shared it with everybody else via PM, email, chat rooms, boards etc. in order to get people over to the sunny side here. I'd also be interested to know more about the official status of the fan club and this board. I've checked the fan club website and this link kinks.it.rit.edu/okfc/about.html states; 'The Official Kinks Fan Club is the only Kinks fan club officialy [sic] recognised by Ray Davies, Dave Davies and Konk.' but further information on what is meant by officially recognised would be welcome and may encourage more people to join/register if they could be sure that the fan club and this board were endorsed by Ray, Dave and Konk. As it stands, Ray may not wish us to post here either - does anybody know?

This place, I must say,I feel has been taken over as a private clique for some who decided to leave the "gray board." My experience is that this is no sunny side. It was a test to see who is in the "right" club. The karma feature is nasty.
I really don't think you can make any improvements which will fix this underlying problem. I think the only hope is that the "new" gray board will eventually be proven to be the new board authorized by Ray. Everyone can reunite on that board. If the action here drops off suddenly, that will be why. Its features, by the way, would be what I would ask you to do for this board if I were tempted to join it.
