Well, as much as I would love to see us all back together (the 3rd board is the future I tells ya!), this board too has upset people, not just the smiting, but the guest facility has left people feeling victimised, both for and not for being participants on this forum. As such, I can't imagine why anyone would now want to leave the grey one and come here, while the facilities are actually driving folks away. Remember back on the other forum, before Goggin, and before this place with it's spam and karma rubbish? We all had the best d**n time. To that end, I am not going to be checking this forum any more, and before you think this is a pro-grey board post, I'm also leaving the grey board. I'm going to the 3rd board, and if it is just me there for a while untill other people come back......I'll keep it warm for you all! Consider this an active invitation to make that the new forum for us, if you don't want to come because you feel uncmfortable with the admin or whatever, please pop-in from time to time to say hi. And remember, karma is alifelong quest, not a click away! Love, Davy

My preference would be to let this subject die. I have more important things to worry about. As far as I am concerned things are okay on both boards. I'm really not looking for conflict or drama. But I feel a need to address this issue.
Ray's board is unofficial and is merely a forum for fans to discuss his art and anything else they want to talk about. Any problem Martin has with Ray has nothing to do with me. Martin doesn't speak for me or for the forum. Nor has he ever tried to do that. He did express his views at one point, but he is largely a silent partner. He doesn't represent the forum any more than your webmaster or Internet Service Provider represents you. The forum is constituted by the people who participate in it and not Martin or any other moderator. I have no problems with the people. Although there is much silliness, I think we do a fine job of honoring Ray and the Kinks. The same is true for this board.
I understand that people who I greatly respect and am fond of will disagree with me. That's fine. I respect that too. I do hope that we can be reunited on a single board at some point. But for now, I hope the discussion simply goes away. The status quo is simply fine to me. I can post on either board and enjoy the conversation. People can freely choose.
I am very fond of folks on the grey board and I don't want to undermine the integrity of that board or this one for that matter. I realize that people have worked hard to make this board (the red one) a pleasant and fun place to hang and they have succeeded. I think that's great. I just wish the divisiveness would stop. It's pointless. People should be free to post wherever they want and I don't see any reason for it. Until there is an official Ray board affiliated with his website that will perhaps unite us all, both boards can co-exist just fine.
Although this may sound hypocritical, the best thing that can happen at this point is for this conversation to die and for life to go on. Just my 2 cents.
Peace
--Dave

Well for personal reasons I think I am finished with all the forums. However, I would like the opportunity to comment because I hope these forums to continue and provide enjoyment to others, just as I have enjoyed them. As ever, I think DaveK talks alot of sense. I can honestly say that in the brief time I was a member of the forums I had great fun. And that is largely down to the people on the forums, not how they they are organised or structured (although I admit that helps!). It is the atmosphere itself which is perhaps the most important factor. Aside from that, and in no particular order here's my tuppence worth. I've enjoyed the non-Kinks related posts as much as the Kinks-related ones. It has been a great place to lose myself from the trials and tribulations of everyday life. I would urge you all to think about what draws you to these forums and that you continue in that vein. All this grey/gray board/red board nonsense ought to stop. To this is end, I think you should drop the "welcome to the sunny side" thread. It was completely valid when it started but in my view it is now divisive. The gray board had survived the pariah posts, and had become equally sunny. In my view, a simple "welcome" thread would suffice now. Think how potential new members would view this. I really liked the CD exchanges, especially the secret santa stuff and the one TomT organised so well (and G12's!). I think it is these sorts of activities that create the bonds between people on the forum. Enough has been said already about the exalt/smite feature. But I think you should respect peoples' feelings on this matter, particularly where they have been smited. It matters to some and not to others - that's life. With the benefit of hindsight, the removal of this function seems to me to be the most pressing improvement. Although I am posting as a guest, in view of the spam problems, I would agree that only members should be able to post. You might want to consider how you draw in new members. In the run-up to a fairly major tour, I am amazed and disappointed but not altogether surprised that Ray doesn't yet have an "official" site of his own. I wasn't a member of any forum at the time of the last major tour in the US, but it seemed to be a significant factor in increasing the membership. As much as I admire the efforts of the people behind the official Kinks fan club, the website is pretty poor by today's standards and by itself unlikely to attract a significant amount of new forum members. It could perhaps do with a spring-clean (it is still advertising the 2006 Konvention). A quick look at the active membership of this forum suggests the majority is drawn from the "gray board". I think it needs to be able to attract new members. . A forum attached to Dave Emlen's excellent "unofficial" site would probably offer the best chances of success, but I appreciate that the views and wishes of Dave himself would need to be taken into account. When disruptive members arrive on the scene, it is quite clear to me that they need to be dealt with swiftly, either by ensuring members ignore them or by closing their accounts. Regrettably, censorship does seem to have a place. From what I have seen, a forum cannot successfully treat a person's mental problems, and if anything, seems to have a tendency to perpetuate them. And those of you who may be privy to the thoughts and wishes of Ray or other members the Kinks, please think carefully before you post. On a forum, all members should surely be equal. If Ray doesn't want people to post on the gray board then he should find a way to make it clear to all or just take steps to close it down, it can't be that hard. I personally have no interest in whether a forum is official or unofficial, and I have even less interest in whether people are privy to information they are not prepared to disclose. To me it is tiresome and a good reason for staying away. My time in "cyberland" or whatever it may be called has I think come to an end, at least for the time being. When it was good it was very good and I hope that you all can re-create the magic it once had. Whether it is here or elsewhere, I'm pretty sure you can because you are a great bunch of people. I know I will take away alot of happy memories (and a copy of TAG's beautiful "Almost" ). Cheers Chris

Chris
I appreciate your post and your wit as well. I think you have stated a very kind and worthwhile message. I am sure many will miss you and hope you come back soon. I think you'll miss us too much to be gone too long.
Really though, good luck.

Chris, you will be missed. I too hope your personal circumstances will settle down and allow you to post again in the future. But I'm just glad we've had this amount of time to get to know you, and I hope you'll stay in touch somehow.
DaveK's got his head together and we should all LISTEN. We're all free to post wherever we feel comfortable. It's rather touching that people seem to want to be together somewhere, but as people's lives change, certain folks are bound to post more or less. It's all good.
