'Last night myself and belfast_boy went to see Ray Davies at the Waterfront, who was pretty great, played mainly Kinks classics, was very keen on audience participation and extraordinarily sprightly for a man in his 60s who has been shot in the leg.... he had a surprisingly large number of screaming fangirls who were clearly following the entire tour and all knew each other, and he seemed to recognise them. It was a bit unexpected. The kind of behaviour I'd expect from a crazed Carl Barat fangirl was not something I had thought would be a major feature at Ray Davies gigs.'

raydaviesfan.livejournal.com/4446.htmlI'm sat at home now. Its after southampton. Yesterday morning when I wrote that last entry, I was in absolute limbo. I wasn't sure If I was to get to see Ray Davies, to speak to him, or just cry from far away. I had drunk so much alcohol yesterday I was majorily drunk when I was at the guildhall. Trying to cure ones hangover with more liquor isn't best perscribed. Anyway it worked a treat and I was feeling so confident. I got chatting to a few fans, Jayne was the one who came over and recognised me from the forum. She was talking to me and stuff, and asking about when Ray was going to arrive. I was in a bit of a haze to be honest my mind was blurred for the 2nd bottle of Lambrini I was gulping my way through. Then he pulled up in his car and I saw him get out and stuff, I swear everything stopped and went slow and I was in such a state of shock. I was drinking from this tea cup and just standing there like I owned the place. Then his girlfriend barged out and was staring and me and smiling, and I wasn't smiling one bit I just stared. Ray didn't see me. I was sure she deffintely did though. One of Rays band members said to me "Cup of Tea outside?" and smiled and I communicated with him breifly. Then he dissapeared and I just thought I can't wait to get into that concert. So we waited for a while, drunk some more booze before we went in. Then we got into the concert and we were sitting quite far back. Row K to be exact. It was alright, but not great, he really had to see me. Jayne then came back during the interval and said that there was a spare seat in the front if I was interested. So I grabbed ma stuff and legged it into the front when come dancing came on, I then stood directly in front of him and clapping and cheering and singing along. He started to notice me as well. He was smiling at me and he winked at me!!! It was amazing. He even asked me "how I was doing" lol. I had been waving to the other band members as well and Ray didn't like that so much Well then I was so heart broken when the concert finished...I thought no this cannot be the end! We wandered outside feeling quite deflated. Then we were sat on the kurb drinking the rest of the lambrini feeling a bit meh. When we heard someone come over to us and he said Excuse me? Do you know where the soul cellar is? Were going there for a drink now, do you guys wanna come...Rays gonna be there. We were like um definitely! So we went there with the band and we were waiting for him like getting on with the band really well. They loved us, and we all looked so pretty. Then Ray arrived and he came up the stairs, pointed at me and beth and said I know you! Then he came over and I shook his hand and stuff. He asked us our names and we told them, where we were from he liked my name a lot. Gentleman! Then he went and sat with his girlfriend for a bit. She was so boringly plain and non interesting. We were all getting on really well. Then Ray came over again a few times and was like cheers! We had a wierd toast thing. Then he sat over at his own table again for a bit. Then he was about to go so he came over and said goodbye. I turned around with the basists hat on and I looked at him all forlorn and said "ohh do you have to go?" and he said yeah, and he shook everyones hands and rubbed jos shoulder I think, then he leaned in slipped his hands round my waist and kissed my cheek!!! It was unbelivable. Then he said I'll see you in Rochester Miss Gentleman.... LIKE OMG!!! I felt so happy. I still am so unbelievably happy. It couldn't have gone any better! I love him so much. So god d**n f**king much.

Ok, Guest, I'm pleased that you had a good time, as many of us have had on this tour. What I'm not pleased about is the fact that you feel the need to be offensive about Ray's girlfriend.Do you honestly think he'd be pleasd to see you at Rochester if he got wind of your comments? This is not the place - I mean, grow up. We all love Ray so much, that's why we're here. Fortunately, most of us have respect for him as well.

If the poster found Ray's girlfriend plain and boring she has every right to state her opinion. You're being righteously indignant over nothing. It's no wonder this place is such a bore.

miss gentleman,
at your age, 17 i think? why don't you follow mcfly or someone nearer your own age? leave ray his dignity at nearly 63! you're just a few years older than ray's youngest daughter, eva. so, if you're just looking for a sugar-daddy and an easy life, look elsewhere cos ray's got a reputation (amongst those who really know him) as being a tight git!
btw. we all love ray, and dave and the kinks, otherwise we wouldent be here.

I've no doubt Ray is flattered by having teenage girls throwing themselves at him -- most men his age would be. I also believe that Mr. Davies knows exactly how valuable that is in the great scheme of things.
And if Ms G has a right to post her opinion, so do those of us who felt her remarks about Ray's lovely girlfriend were mean-spirited (besides being totally untrue).
