Funny -- I was 17 then -- and I thought of Paul as being TOO old for me then. Even though I fantasized that he'd leave Linda for me, I didn't expect that to happen until I was an adult. (And then...boy, was she gonna be sorry!) I had no expectation that a grown man would see anything in a teenage twit like myself.
But society's changed since then...we've fetishized youth until it seems to be the be-all and end-all, and teenagers have become so much more sexually active (or pretend to be), that all the boundaries have blurred. Unfortunately, today's avid teenager may find himself/herself feeling "over the hill" at age 25.
Whereas we floozies know the secret: "ripeness is all", as Shakespeare wrote.

Unfortunately, today's avid teenager may find himself/herself feeling "over the hill" at age 25. Whereas we floozies know the secret: "ripeness is all", as Shakespeare wrote. I'm afraid our generation contributed to the youth fetish! Remember the 'generation gap'? How about "DON'T TRUST ANYONE OVER 30"... My students suggested I market new t-shirts & bumper stickers: "DON'T TRUST ANYONE UNDER 30." They think we Boomers feel this way A LOT! ;D As to the rest of it, these kids are just as star-struck as we were and their grandmothers were about Elvis or Frank Sinatra and their greater grandmothers were over Rudolph Valentino. As to age-differences being a barrier, my students have a sense of entitlement to have access to everything an adult would. They don't see the consequences...just the money, status, power, 15 minutes of fame & BLING! Thank you, MTV!

For the most part, I think it's great that Ray has some hardcore younger fans. Many of these folks who really know the music and are truly dedicated to the cause. Most Kinks fans, are, well, let's just say a little older. ;D Nicole was just waxing enthusiastically (maybe a little over the top) about a great day in her life. I'm surprised that Ray engenders such a reaction at his age, but I think it's cool. Then again, age is becoming a more elastic concept or so I hope. I have really enjoyed reading people's stories and seeing pictures. I'm kinda sad that tour has come to an end. Time for Ray to tour on the other side of the pond ;D The ole davek now signing in as davek729

It's on the RAH DVD. Is this really it? Is this the final station? It's really been quite a trip Looking at all the faces here Who travelled so far to be so near From all of the places I once knew The distance has brought me close to you I'd really like to thank you all For always being here for me Yes, even at the Albert Hall It's really been great to watch the sights Look at the edited highlights And all the out-takes I did not see Were only my unreality I am, I am imaginary I am, I am imaginary I'm the imaginary man Imaginary man Yes, I am (Imaginary) Walked down to Preservation Hall Looking for the old trad band It was such a momentary glance I watched as the world went flashing past Saw my reflection in the glass I knew my face but couldn't tell Why I didn't recognise myself I am, I am imaginary I am, I am imaginary I'm the imaginary man Imaginary man Yes, I am (Imaginary) I'm the imaginary man Imaginary man Yes, I am (Imaginary) I am, I am imaginary man

Why is it difficult to get things done In the age of computers and communication? The powers that be say we can't keep a hold Of a world that is escalating out of control
Out on the street there's a war going on And everything's going wild But a bureaucrat says we've lost your file So we'll put you on hold for a while
Hey man, call the D.A. Call the National Guard Call the president Call anyone in the land of the free 'Cos they ain't gonna listen to me
Call the P.D. The emergency evacuation The Dalai Lama or Kofi Annan but They ain't gonna listen to me
The voice on the 'phone says we'll get right back But they say all the computers are down And the chief prosecutor had to go out of town
No one listens They ain't gonna listen No one listens to me
Now we got you in the system You are going nowhere And in a few more years we'll give your case a review
No one listens They ain't gonna listen No one listens to me
Hey man, call the president Write to City Hall Tell the White House Tell the preacher in the missionary 'Cos they ain't gonna listen to me
Blame the hurricane Blame the drug trade Blame the ghettos In the land of the free 'Cos they ain't gonna listen to me
They ain't gonna listen to me
Everybody knows it's a crying shame How the little guy gets d i c k e d around Everybody I talk to agrees And if you wanna get heard it's connections that count
I was minding my business when a bad situation occurred Shock, horror and fear But the outcome is still unclear Hey man, I am the innocent party here
They ain't gonna listen to me
Call the D.A. Call the National Guard Call the president Tell the wino in the old man bar They ain't gonna listen to me
But the voice on the 'phone says we'll get right back They ain't gonna listen Nobody listened Nobody listened to me
