I like him BETTER than Dylan. Uncle Neil, as we call him in our household...not a fashion plate, exactly, but a songwriter with true heart and soul and passion and integrity. Talk about aging well -- he's got as much fire today as he ever did. The funny thing is, I used to dislike him back in the early 70s, because his vocals sounded whiny to me and I thought Crosby Stills and Nash were too folky. (I was in the grips of Kinkomania and couldn't listen to anything that sounded remotely Californian.) But as the years passed, Neil Young began to grow on me, and then suddenly it hit me what a major American voice he is. Now I love even the overplayed tracks I thought I hated when they first came out -- even "Heart of Gold" and "Old Man." It's all brilliant.

Dylan is great too. But he exasperates me sometimes.

Hummm... you'll need to talk to the Warning Label about these guys. He's a big fan.. I'm a great admirer of their writing.. but their voices kinda grate on me (sorry)

I love Neil Young's voice now. Can't imagine why I ever thought it was whiny. Dylan's voice is another story -- but he's quite a song stylist.
I think the mark of Dylan's genius as a songwriter is how good his songs are even when someone else sings them. The same, of course, can be said for Ray. But every once in awhile I hear Dylan sing the original version of one of his songs that I know better through another artist, and I realize only the Dylan version really gets to the heart of it.

Love Neil Young...felt he didn't always get quite the recognition he deserved (sound familiar ) but kept plugging anyway. In recent yrs, his 'Harvest Moon' is one of my faves. He just sold out multi-nights in NYC/December.

Neil Young and Bob Dylan are both great artists and songwriters.

I especially liked Neil Young & the Bluenotes "This Note's For You." seems I am in the minority on that one as I don't think it sold very well. fun, upbeat record.

This Note's for you ... brilliant album (great guitar playing!) Neil... it's hard to express what he's been doing... Maybe I'll give it a try... I really don't know how ... Lennon-Makka/Jimi/Bawb Dylan; they have been writing the textbooks on how to write popsongs/play the guitar/write lyrics... Neil didn't mind, he made it all redundant because he made it a personal thing ... Kinda like the KinKs and the Doors did. They did it their own way, they're the kind of artists you keep supporting for the simple reason that they are honest and true... and extremely good! (I should be saying more, but all I can say is: Listen!)

Very well put, el good-son! There is something raw and honest about Neil's work that make it very special. Or maybe it's just something uncompromising about the man himself that shines through.
