That's a good album. "Wonderin'" of all things. Plus the great "Winterlong". Neil and Crazy Horse were made for each other.
I also recommend "Live at Massey Hall".
I guess he's opening the vault and digging out a bunch of concerts for release.

If you like those two (the Massey Hall is a must have), and haven't already heard it, I recommend the original 'Crazy Horse' disc. It is a great LP/CD with Danny Whitten's songs as well as stuff from other members, and songs Neil later covered like Let's Go Downtown and Dance Dance Dance. Every song is catchy, and Gone Dead Train, I Don't Want to Talk About It and a couple of others are minor classics. Neil Young isn't on the disc, but it still is great stuff.

Danny Whitten was a great talent and adds so much to the early NY and Crazy Horse albums. He was the perfect foil for Neil. Such a shame he didn't have a longer career. I love Crazy Horse, but they were a much better band with him.

I love Crazy Horse, but they were a much better band with him. It's been so long since I heard the Crazy Horse album that I forget what it sounds like. When Neil played with Danny, you could hear the two of them distinctly. A good example is "Down by the River" where the two guitars are 'talking' to each other, weaving in and out of the music. "Come on Baby Lets Go Downtown" on 'Tonights the Night' shows how energetic they were together live. When Poncho joined, he sort of just played in the background - its hard to tell what he his actually playing. To this day, I don't even know what he plays like. Neil started to overpower Crazy Horse and he remains the loudest and biggest guitar on stage when they play together. They might as well be a threesome.

Danny played great slide guitar, and it is all over the Crazy Horse album and on the 'Everybody Knows this is Nowhere' disc there is a lot of interplay between Neil and Danny. On most of the later versions of Crazy Horse/Neil Young the band sometimes is sloppy and sometimes plays too loud for my taste, though Live Rust is outstanding stuff.

It's a shame he decided to play arenas this time around. I can't say that I blame him. I was very fortunate to see him twice late last year at the United Palace (a beautiful old theater in North Manhattan that seats maybe 2500 people). I don't think I will go to see him play at MSG. I am sure I have trotted out these pictures several times before ;D, but anyway here they are: picasaweb.google.com/Davek729/NeilYoungAtUnitedPalaceI got into some trouble for taking those ;D
