Creedence Clearwater Revival just released fortieth anniversary editions of its first six albums on CD, with bonus cuts original artwork and writeups by well-known rock authors. I don't know how many fans there are of CCR on the site, but I grew up with them in the late 60s and their simple tunes were a staple of the music we listened to and played in the US at the time. Six million-selling albums in 2 1/2 years. The reviews, if you're interested, are at Turbula.com, along with some others on Taj Mahal, Rory Block, Hal Ketchum, etc.

They were the soundtrack of those years, for sure. Great band. I can scarcely listen to those songs without feeling transported back in time. I loved their energy and passion and grass-roots political fervor.

I don't consider CCR one of my favourite bands but I like them a lot. I have a box set with all their albums so I won't consider getting these reissues, but they look very good.

I don't own any Creedence but if I were to order 2 of them where should I start? I would start with either Cosmos Factory (their most accessible) or Green River. Willie and the Poor Boys isn't too far behind. CCR were also a great singles band and you can't go wrong with their greatest hits either Chronicle (vol 1 ), a single CD that is probably available for cheap. I am not a fan of greatest hits collections, but I love the CCR one.

I think davek has a good point. There are two one-disc compilations, the first (Chronicle Vol I) has their singles and some LP tracks on it, the second is radio/album tracks. These are both real good stuff and easily available if you don't really care about all of the album cuts-though that Cronicle Vol II has many of the best ones on it. The best albums: Cosmo's Factory and Green River definitely, though Bayou Country rocks real well, great guitar playing (Chronicle II has a couple of the best songs on it). Willie and the Poor Boys is good but short and has two filler instumentals. Pendulum and the first one are definitely for Creedence lovers mainly. A few of their best songs, like 'Ramble Tamble' and 'Keep on Chooglin' you need to get the album discs to hear.

I like Creedence! Infact it was only a couple of days ago that I bought Chronicle and what was most pleasing was the fact I got it for a bargain.
