some memories of that show...
this show was so freakin great!!!...
YOU HAD TO BE THERE TO FULLY APPRECIATE THAT SHOW! iT WAS ROCK & ROLL CHAOS IN ITS PUREST FORM, THE AUDIENCE WAS TOTALLY IN TO IT...WAS NEAR LIKE RIOT CONDITIONS UP FRONT...THOSE WERE THE DAYS!
What an amazing show that was!!! and drunk wasn't the word for it....( Ray and the Babtist Gosling were 2 sheets to the wind )Yes right in the middle of People take Pictures of each other he broke in to If I was a Rich Man and If I remember correctly cuz I was pretty obliterated myself he did a Johnny Cash song that night too, something with the word Rose or Roses in it? I use to know the title...hey Jayne are you out there...your the Cash expert here One off many off stage memories I have of that night was when I went out back to have a beer with John Dalton right before the show and I left him for a moment and he had to go back in put forgot his backstage pass so I had to convince the guards that he was in the band to get him back in, they wouldn't even let him in with my pass, cuz they said they remembered seeing me all day with the band but not him... I have that show in tape too somewhere but the 71, 72 and early 73 tours were my favorite touring years for the Kinks. St. Johns was in March I believe, March 6th ring a bell???
What I wouldn't give to relive those early 70's shows over again...!!! they wee just beyond words, nothing I say or no combination of words could express what it was like at those shows...the air was electric, sparks flew and just before the band hit the stage everything just EXPLODED and for the next what could be anywhere from 60 to 150 minutes ( ya never knew what was going to happen and anything and everything could and did at some shows ) it was pandemonium and every crow, floozie and child for themselves! I'd go back if I could only find a way!!!
