A nice, spirited version.

As much as I love Paul's stuff, and I thought '14 songs' was one of the greatest albums the year it came out, as well as the body of work of the Replacements (which was mostly just Paul Westerberg being backed by other guys), I was hoping for a better sounding cut than that. It does have the raw punk energy that the early Replacement albums are full of and the sloppy live ambience. He ought to put a studio version with a little of the edges smoothed off on one of his discs. FrankL is right about the 100 proof thing.

I'm not the only one who doesn't think it sounds like Paul singing. And the guitar solo doesn't sound like Bob stinson either. I'm not so sure it's the Replacements but it was a long long time ago. I DO know that that is one of the Kinks songs that they would do along with You Really Got Me back then however so maybe it is them... Another weird tidbit - Paul covered part of the Kinks "Dandy" for his latest download only release. This link is for the back cover art that a fan made. img139.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pw49505tray6wbordertk5.png

That was the beauty of the early Replacements--there was never a smoothing of edges. I really liked the band (especially the original one) with the Stinsons and Chris Mars--not to say that they were great musicians. I quite like Mars solo recordings especially the first one Horseshoes and Hand Grenades. It easily ranks with the best of Westerberg's solo stuff in my humble opinion.

The early Replacements shows were in some ways like the late 60's and early shows of the KinKs...Rock & Roll does not always have to be perfect and smooth to be good or even great, in fact more times than not, that is worse! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Official Ray Davies merchandise shop... www.resonancemusicstore.com/raydavies/index.html

Now that I read the blog again about it being before they hit it big, I can see why it sounds so much like their early stuff. The lead break sounds like Paul might be playing guitar on it, not certain, but it has that kind of thrashy thing.

Tom..have you heard any more about a Replacements tour, or new album? I thought I heard it mentioned recently somewhere

No, there's nothing to report. Apparently it's not gonna happen cause the drummer (Chris Mars) doesn't want to do it.
I'm hoping Paul will tour soon. It's been three years now.
