Just signed on. I recently retired and resumed my musician life after over 30 years, and never stopped being a Kinks fanatic. I play guitar with a group of guys that aren't as familiar as me and we are working in Kinks songs, and the ones that they have liked the most over the past year may be an indication of 'most underrated': 'Too Much on My Mind', 'Got to Be Free', and 'King Kong'. My own choice would be 'Rainy Day in June'.

We all have our favorite Kinks songs that we feel are underrated, but what I was trying to point out when I started this thread was..... what Kinks classic was basically ingnored or unknow to the masses and the main stream music world. When you view the comments from You Tube about "Waterloo Sunset" you can read all of the newbies comments about the song and how great it is. I guess what I am trying to say is that it is the best unknown song ever written in the main stream music world. Does that make any sense?

You're totally right about that, cooldad. It's unjustly ignored by the world at large.

If we're looking for a Kinks tune that was great but went ignored or nearly so by the mainstream music world, there are probably a dozen. Celluloid Heroes got a lot of FM play in my part of the world, but singles that didn't go anywhere that I really liked were See My Friends, Days, Shangri-La, Ducks on the Wall, and Sweet Lady Genevieve-the last would by my choice.

I think we all inderstand and appreciate your view around here my friend. On the other hand, in a sort of selfish way, I'm kind of glad that's the way it is. This way WS is not subject to horrendous covers, and, unlike Yesterday, Brigge over troubled waters, etc., is not part of the holiday resorts lounge piano players repertoire, which would be vomitive. It's acute schizofenia for me, on the one hand I'd love The Kinks to have the recogninition they deserve, on the other, I like them to be kind of private to those of us who have had the taste and wit to appreciate them. Anyway, I vote for Blamo's proposition. Everytime I hear This Time Tomorow it's like some magic is happening around me. L

You're right, Luis -- Waterloo Sunset seems like such a personal song, so quintessentially Ray, that I shudder to think of Van Halen covering it.
