Hi guys, im new here. Huge Kinks fan I used to be obsessed with them and then took a little break and now I'm back at it and can't get enough of anything Kinks related. I am super curious how they could have a successful 1967, with Waterloo Sunset being a small hit and then in 1969 they got at least a little success with Arthur. I cant find many videos from 1968 and it said online that VGPS only got ONE review from the music press. Can anyone explain how it could be that big of a commercial bomb? Did the record company just not promote it?

Hi Drewsky34
The Kinks' VGPS was released on the same day as The Beatles‘ „White Album“ - November 22nd 1968; a few weeks before The Jimi Hendrix Experience „Electric Ladyland" had seen the light of day. The record’s existence was almost unnoticed, criminally neglected and commercially ignored.
I think that PYE records did very little if nothing to promote the album well enough.
