Hi everybody! My name is Matteo. I'm French and I discovered the Kinks not long ago (I didn't knew much of their song catalog past their early hits such as You Really Got Me). I have yet to listen to all of their albums from their Golden Era but I can already tell you that I'm very fond of Face to Face (I started with The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society, Something Else and The Kink Kontroversy). I'm really looking forward to have great conversations with the Kinks fans of this board !

I love to see new fans discovering the work of the Kinks! There are a lot of songs out there to learn about -- it's good to take your time. Ray Davies' songwriting samples so many style of music that it can be a little surprising at first. Please continue to share your impressions here, Matteo!

Thank you HollyH and martin53! There is indeed a lot of variety among the few albums I have alreaday listened to. The Kink Kontroversy is quite different from The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society. I watched the live concert the Kinks gave at the BBC in 1973 and it really showcases the band's ability to evolve in different sonic spaces .

Hi HollyH! How are you doing? It's been a while since I've written something here! I have listened to Lola versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One for the first time recently. To be honest I was a little bit underwhelmed with the melodic content of the majority of the songs even if there were exceptions (for instance I really do appreciate Get Back in Line). I really feel like the development of the concept of the album supplanted its musical exploration. Regarding the lyrics, I found them to be really entertaining but I admit that those of Apeman bothered me... I'd be interested in knowing what you all think of this LP .

In my modest opinion, it is the group's best album for all that this work represents. Ray Davies in full compositional maturity and musically returns with rock songs with great riffs and at the same time intercalate beautiful pop melodies, ballads, music hall of pure cabaret and with touches of acoustic or country music production in almost all of them. For me to understand is the most complete album, and where the group plays. And to say of Dave Davies brings to the album two pieces of songs, Strangers a magnificent ballad and Rats with a sensational riff that increase the quality of the disc. Here the Kinks began to change to a more American sound until the Operetas.

Matteo, I recommend that when you begin to listen to the albums of the RCA stage listen to it without haste and requires a slow and rested digestion, so that you can finally notice its true flavor and discover the reasons why, in effect, it is great Albums. Some of them are Masterpieces. And you, who are of the last funs Kinks and do not dare to collect these albums because of the negative reviews, stop worrying and pick it up. You will be pleasantly surprised. Okay?

Matteo, how are you? Lola vs Powerman is one of my favorite Kinks albums. I particularly enjoy Rats, Powerman, and Strangers. The Moneygoround grew to my liking slowly, but is now a favorite as well. I agree, Apeman is not to my personal liking, but it used well in the introduction of the movie CLUB PARADISE

Hi Lorendavies! Hi Uncleson! I hope you're both doing well!
I too think that the LP succeeds in blending a variety of musical genres but I still feel it's lacking in the melodic department in comparison to the previous efforts of the band... But you are right when you say that albums are not made to be listened to only once. I just shared my first impressions. However, I suspect that part of my reaction has to do with the sound of the record : the guitars sound much darker here than in Something Else for example. And having listened to Victoria I presume that this shift in the band's sound starts with Arthur (that I still haven't listened to). I usually prefer an overall brighter sound that seems rawer to me than this heavier and darker tone that makes me think of the traditional sounds of the 70s rock bands.
Regarding the RCA albums, I've already listened to Muswell Hillbillies. Do you think I should follow a particular order in my discovery of them?
Uncleson, I have not seen Club Paradise so I will have to do so! Actually, I liked the music of Apeman but the lyrics really disturbed me. I sincerly hope it was some bad word choices...
