Thanks for this Donl - this set sure is extensive! I'd really love to sit and watch that DVD too - looks great! I doubt I'll be buying this for a while yet, I knew it would be expensive when we first started hearing about the set though.

''I doubt I'll be buying this for a while yet'' .... Hmmm, well I went and pre-ordered it yesterday, I was prompted after seeing this quote from Russell Smith on Dave Emlen's site - "This is generating a lot of queries, too many to answer personally - I know a lot of folk were caught out how quickly the Mono box set sold. The box version of the 'Kinks at Beeb' is a true limited edition and once gone, that's it. I would strongly advise anyone interested in it to place an order ASAP as interest is extremely high." As I said before, I'm especially looking foward to watching the DVD

I was just looking at Kinks stuff on eBay and came across a listing that might be of interest to some of you. It's for the new BBC boxset, the auction's for a promo copy which I assume means that you won't get the actual box, liner notes etc, but on the plus side it's much cheaper then it's selling anywhere else - assuming someone bids and wins it for a decent price! The seller posts worldwide, at time of posting this the bid is at £5.50 (approx $8.63) postage is 80p (approx $1.20) and the auction ends in 23 and a half hours. I hope someone might see this and get themselves a bargain! www.ebay.co.uk/itm/The-Kinks-RARE-2012-PROMO-CD-SAMPLER-At-The-BBC-/170895009682?pt=UK_CDsDVDs_CDs_CDs_GL&hash=item27ca22e792

I bought the bbc box on universal music and they sent me the wrong item, but they will refund. Now, I placed a new order and they sent me the right one. My question is: in the universal music web site there is this message: ''Please note: The exclusive prints are no longer available with this box set.'' What is this exclusive prints?

My question is: in the universal music web site there is this message: ''Please note: The exclusive prints are no longer available with this box set.'' What is this exclusive prints? There was some info about this on Dave Emlen's site. From the Universal Music store: "Buy this box set from Monday 13th August at 10am (BST) and the first 100 orders will receive an exclusive print. The first 50 of these limited edition prints will be signed by the band!"I ordered mine from Amazon on Thursday and it arrived yesterday. I've just loaded the cds onto my ipod and will give it a spin today. I've had a peak at bits of the DVD - one clip that intrigued me was listed as from the Alan Price Show 1966. When I watched it, it was Ray and Dave being interviewed separately about songwriting, and Ray specifically about Waterloo Sunset, which threw me a bit because that wasn't out until '67. Anyway, as seems the norm with Kinks related releases, that's another typo and the show is from '68. They're both very good and insightful pieces; Dave comes over very well and is quite animated. The thing is beautifully packaged - it's like a hard back book and the first 34 pages are words and photos and then theres the six cd/dvd sleeves.

Even that I ordered before August 13th I had to place a new order That sucks haha, it would be nice get one signed Besides that, I think it will take about a month or more to arrive here in Brazil.

I've been listening to this and watching the dvd a bit more over the last few days. I had mixed feelings about buying it because of the steep price and the fact that there is very little on it that we haven't heard or seen from other releases/ youtube. On balance, I'm pleased I did buy it. When I've heard the DJs on the tracks on previous releases they seemed to get in the way, but here (like the deluxe releases) they seem to fit in very well - it's like listening to the radio in some places.
Perhaps the biggest surprise is the DVD, I've enjoyed watching the concerts far more than I thought I would. For me, the Kinks At The Rainbow from '72 is the best, mainly because of the social commentary that comes with it. The Kinks and Ray especially seem quite fragile at this point but also quite close.
The interviews on the cds are great, especially the Keith Altham one with Ray from 1970. Keith seems to imply (to me anyway) that the band aren't on the same level as Ray as a songwriter and are holding him back. He also suggests Ray augment the band, which Ray rejects. Not soon after that Ray did augment the band!
I think it's definitely a worthwhile purchase, even if there isn't much new to listen to. Perhaps the only downside is the sound quality on the 5th cd, which is described as "off-air bootleg recordings" - ie home recordings of BBC shows by fans. There is a great version of Louie Louie on this cd though - it seems to have a lot more punch than the Pye recording.

Chris, I've been really tired and not so well this week, as a consequence I've only listened to the first disc so far of course I enjoyed it, but as you said, some of these songs have already been released on the Kinks At The BBC - 1964 to 1977. Still, once I check out the other discs I'm sure I'll hear (hoping I'll hear!) recordings that I might not previously have heard. Were you slightly enticed by the fancy packaging Chris? I admit that I was... you have to admit that it is beautifully boxed, like you said, it's like a little hard backed book inside the outer box. I can't believe I haven't watched the DVD yet! I love watching Kinks performances, I have quite a few Kinks DVD's so reckon I'll have seen many of the performances (plus I've watched many on YouTube) but I'm hoping there'll at least be a couple of things I haven't seen. Regardless of what I have/haven't seen before, it'll still be nice to have all these performances in one place. Did you ever buy the Kinks Picture Book boxset? I have to say that I was more excited when that came out, as well as recordings we hadn't heard before it also contained some previously unreleased stuff, some great songs I'd never heard before like Duke.

Are there more songs than "Did you see his name" that is missing in the bbc-box, compared to the double-cd bbc-set?
