Wakeup, I have that Hank Williams record and it's great! Essential stuff, and a generous enough helping that it's probably all a casual country fan like me needs.
Holly, have you considered that the LPs I bought might be the very same ones you once owned? It's possible...

Yea, that's a good Hank collection. All the best known songs and other good ones.

Hank Sr is as intrinsic a figure in my area as Elvis was to Memphis. I first had 40 Greatest Hits; my dad had it on tape and then I had it on cd! A similar set is the Ultimate/Gold one that has come out in recent years and has the more modern mastering. Got Ultimate too and it actually introduced me to a couple of songs! Consider that he had 35 self penned Top Ten Hits by age 29 and that there are probably that many other moderate 'hits' missing from the above sets; you can see it wouldn't be quite comprehensive. But a great buy; the best for casual listeners ! The booklet is much more informative on 40 Greatest Hits than Ultimate (reissused later as GOLD), too! As someone who has an unopened 10cd Complete Hank Williams boxset sitting right behind me that I got 8 years ago for my dad for Christmas (my dad nor I just don't want to open a treasure chest for some reason), I'll tell you this is the set I'd recommend and actually listen to when I want to put on 'Ol Hank if you want to transform into a follower! A bit more expensive, but worth the investment if you are ok with getting a used set ! Singles Collection www.amazon.com/Singles-Collection-Hank-Williams-Sr/dp/B000001FZA/ref=sr_1_9?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1335458673&sr=1-9I apologize to Wakeup and Gary for chiming in on this; their choice sounds best for most !!!! I just thought I'd add some info for someone 'hankering' for a little more Hank!

I'm glad! The website thefeeliesweb.com/ is a great source of up-to-date info on the Feelies and all their related projects, including more upcoming Trypes reissues. The Feelies, of course, are reunited and sounding great. A related band, Speed the Plough, has also reunited, and I plan to start exploring their catalog soon. Full disclosure: I once lived in Hoboken for a few years and still love the "Hoboken sound"! Gary, Is there a Feelies album you'd recommend to start with?

Got it. The big box... Wow Wakeup! Good for you! As I said, this one I got for my dad has never been opened! I think the price has come down some ; although I was lucky enough to get it through a special music club setup by BMG for less than half price and that music club came and went! Again, fantastic!

Gary, Is there a Feelies album you'd recommend to start with? Sorry I didn't see this earlier. My favorite is their second, "The Good Earth" (1986). It makes me irrationally happy. But their fifth and most recent, "Here Before" (2011), is as close as makes no difference. All their records are good, but the first, "Crazy Rhythms" (1980), sounds more mannered, so I'd start with one of the others.
