The response to Animals videos has always been so huge and so positive in this forum that I decided to open a special thread for this brilliant English group. Witness a thrilling live performance at the New Musical Express poll-winners all-star concert, Wembley Arena, England, Sunday, April 11th 1965. The Animals - Boom Boom Boom Enjoy.

All the videos of that concert are amazing -- Eric Burdon seems like he's on FIRE.

Thanks for gifting us with this thread and the New Musical Express footage martin ! I've always loved the tv performances I've seen of the Animals on Hullabaloo and the like. My fav song by them is 'It's My Life' which I think is a similar touchstone for punk music as 'I'm Not Like Everybody Else'. I offer you this performance because of it's unique eeriness ;D! Does this sound 'live' to you folks?

Just thought I'd mention here that the Animals, in their classic incarnation, stopped along about 1965. The Eric Burdon Animals are a different band altogether. They also put out some fine music, and Eric will always be one of my favorite singers. But -- sigh -- I am quite a purist when it comes to the Animals.

I wanted to mention something that kind of relates to the 2 periods of the Animals that Holly alluded to. There is a great way to get most of the great music from both periods of the Animals; it's a double cd collection called the Story of The Animals that was also retitled and re-released as 'Singles Plus'. These both contain 41 tracks. I scored the Story of the Animals set about 7 years ago for $4 online (plus $3 shipping). I recently saw one of these online for $5 and I think the Singles Plus can be found used pretty much anytime for under $10.
I did get the excellent single disc 'Retrospective' when Abkco released it later because at the time it was a 'Hybrid SACD' which suggested better sound and it did include the big hit 'Spill The Wine' that Eric Burdon cut with the band WAR. I think the Retro... set has since dropped the 'SACD' layer so it's not as attractive in my view.
I wanted to mention that double cd set because it is 'a little secret' that maybe most folks don't know about. To my non-wav form tested ears, the sound is good on it too.

“The Complete Animals” - This double CD only includes the complete sessions that The Animals recorded with their producer Mickie Most in 1964 and 1965. The 40 songs capture the band at their peak. After they hit the mark, though, The Animals produced some great album tracks that have been mostly forgotten by time, such as "I'm Mad Again" (originally by John Lee Hooker), "Worried Life Blues" and "Bury My Body." After leaving Mickie Most, the group would maintain their peak for another year or so (this period is represented on the fine import collection “Inside Looking Out: The 1965 - 1966 sessions") despite the departure of one of rock's all-time finest organists, Alan Price. This compilation has everything that Alan Price recorded with the group, including four previously unreleased cuts and the non-LP Eric Burdon original on the B-side of "It's My Life," "I'm Gonna Change the World." The item is still available.

I have that box set that Martin mentioned -- there's not a bad track in the package.
