I almost put this in my recent thread about a different radio show, but I decided to start a new thread because you MUST hear this! This week's episode of "Little Steven's Underground Garage," which played in my town tonight, highlights four great singles, and the first one is "All Day and All of the Night." Little Steven deconstructs the record for several minutes, and by the time he was done and gave it a spin, I was hearing it with new ears. The show is not archived yet on his website, but I'm sure it will be soon. Watch for show No. 480: http:undergroundgarage.com

Thanks for the link; I can't wait to hear this. Little Steven has a great ear. I remember seeing him in the VIP crowd at Ray's Irving Plaza shows a couple years back.

This episode convinced me that this show is essential listening. Little Steven might have the edge at the moment, but Holly, you're a darn good explicator of Kinks songs yourself!

The link is up for show no. 480, which was titled "Four Big Ones (The Stupid Melody)": undergroundgarage.com/shows-489-480/show-480-four-big-ones-the-stupid-melody.htmlThe other three singles discussed on the show are "Satisfaction," "I Can See for Miles," and the Beatles' "Rain." The link is that they all have "stupid" melodies -- but the way Little Steven uses the word, it's a compliment more than a putdown.

It's a great segment indeed -- everybody should check it out! Who knew that that simple pop song was so musicologically sophisticated!!
