You might have noticed on Dave Emlen's News page an announcement of a two-hour Kinks show tonight on KOPN, 6-8 CDT. Since that's my local station, I thought I'd put in a plug for it. The show, "Pat's Power Pop & Punk Hours," is weekly, but every once in a while Power Pop Pat shares the mike with a Kinks expert (wish I could remember his name) who programs the show. You can choose a way to stream the show at www.kopn.org/. A couple of years ago during one of Pat's Kinks shows, I called in with the answer to a trivia question and won a CD of various artists covering songs by Dave. Pat sounded a little disappointed that I was right down the street and not one of his far-flung Web listeners. Columbia, Mo., is a pretty good Kinks town. Aside from Pat's occasional Kinks shows, a local group staged "Arthur" a few years back.

Sounds great! Thanks for the tip -- it's good to know you've got a local station "tuned in" to the Kinks!

The show turned out to be songs from the "See My Friends" CD interspersed with songs from the tribute album "The Kinks Unkovered" and "15 Songs in the Spirit of Ray Davies," a CD insert from a recent Uncut magazine. I was unfamiliar with these, so it was interesting to hear them. The program was marred by frequent interruptions from the National Weather Service to warn listeners about severe thunderstorms passing through. Don't worry, I'm OK!

Glad your not being affected by the bad weather Gary! It sounds like you enjoyed listening to the Kinks show! Hopefully some of those tribute songs were worth hearing.

Sounds like an interesting show, Gary. There were some great covers on those disks. For most listeners, this would have been new material -- hopefully it will inspire them to go back and listen to the originals as well.
