Transforming Anger To Light Give Your Anger To The Earth As humans, we all have anger, sometimes more than others. A healthy way of purging our anger from our bodies is to give it to Mother Earth. We can imagine ourselves being grounded as the electrical energy passes from us into Mother Earth below. We can see that energy go straight to the earth's core where it becomes part of the continuous growth process of our planet and is transformed from negative to positive, from dark to light. When we choose to give our anger to the earth, we trust our connection with the natural world we live in and the great universe that fuels it all. Mother Earth will lovingly transform your anger into light so no need to feel guilty about unloading to her.
We can make this offering of our energy from any location, whether many stories up or on a ship at sea. We know the earth is below us, supporting us and sustaining us. If we have the opportunity to physically connect to the earth by going outdoors and touching unpaved ground, we may find it easier to connect to nature's energy flow. It may also be easier to receive the flow of positive, calming, healing energy that comes to fill our bodies when we have emptied ourselves of our anger. To begin, sit and breathe deeply, ask Mother Earth to accept your anger, and imagine it coming down your spine out of your tailbone, and into the earth's deep core. To finish, be sure to honor and thank the earth for her loving service.
When we work with our anger this way, we acknowledge that like everything else it is merely energy that can be used positively or negatively. During our grounding meditation, we may be given direction to channel this energy for its best use. We may find that the earth can help us cleanse misplaced energy to use for its rightful purpose. When we do this with gratitude, we know that we are not misusing the earth for our own selfish purposes. Instead we are connecting ourselves with the energy of our homeland, and when we do this we nurture the earth as it nourishes us.

Hey Sharon,
I finally got around to changing the colors from red to blue and black. Much better thank you! I'm like the turtle in the turtle and the hare race. I'm slow but I get there eventually. Thanks again..
Regards, Tim

Thanks for sharing Rafaela's 'Give you anger to the earth' method of dispersing anger. Pretty deep stuff.
Ray's 'Over My Head' delves into a simple method of simply letting anger go. I love this song. I don't know if Ray purposely used some 12- step recovery tips or suggestions, or just used his own insight to echo these suggestions, but they are definately there throughout the song. Examples: "day at a time, step by step", "Right now I want some peace of mind, so let it go right over my head". There's mention of a possible (usually fruitless) geographic relocation, friutless because you still have the same problems with you when you arrive at your new destination (the problem being what lies within oneself). "Let 'em chase and the winner take all, And let it go right over my head." (A detatchment from the rat race it seems). The last stanza echos step 10,"Close the door, let me please get to my bed. I wanna take stock, see my life in perspective." Still another famous 12-step phrase in the last stanza, "Live and let live." And then he ends the song with letting anger go, over his head.
Having been in recovery for over 18 years, I am very familiar with all these "words of wisdom". When I was drinking and doing drugs also, I would cringe and say what a buch of a-holes they were for uttering such sheepish bu--sh-t. But it was 12-step recovery which saved my life so now I treasure these little nuggets. And now to hear Ray perform it on one of his albums just makes me feel all the better. I don't care where he got it from. If I ever got the chance to talk to him, I hope I would have the balls to ask him without the fear of offending him, especially if these lyrics were concieved in his brain and weren't influenced by 12-step slogans. Whatever, it is an amazing song and hits home to my very core.
So Rafaela and Ray seem to agree that unchecked anger can be a destructive emotion. I believe everybody would have to agree with this assessment. They mention methods to disperse this negativity. I know of another one (it is widely known also): Pray for the one you have a resentment for. It's sometimes extremely hard as our egos tend to diminish the sincerety of these prayers. But if you really pray that the person you're pissed off at might see some sanity or reason, it really works! Sometimes it dawns on you that sometimes you're part to blame also: "I wanna take stock, see my life in perspective."
Unchecked anger usually will only escalate until all reason is buried beneath accusations and counterclaims. Thank you Rafaela and Ray, and a special thank you to you Sharon for bringing these words of wisdom over to this board.
Peace, Tim

Great analysis of that song, bones! I love it.
If you ever have time to listen to some of John Hiatt's songs, I find them deeply indebted to the 12-step wisdom as well.

Thanks for your comments, Tim. What you're describing sounds like the Buddhist "Loving Kindness Meditation." You concentrate on the person you are at odds with and wish them peace, contentment and freedom from pain and suffering. Like you said, it sometimes takes more than one try, but eventually it does work.

Have a great day.
