Hmm, some interesting names cropping up -- Fred Eaglesmith, John Miles, Gary Brooker/Keith Reed -- looks like I've got some new artists to research. I mean if you guys like them that much, that's all the recommendation I need. Oh, if you pick up some Fred I implore you to include the '96 release 'Drive-In Movie'. Each track has merit and some are pure gems.

Most of my favorite women singers aren't writers (love Bonnie Raitt, but my fave songs of hers were usually written by someone else), but these five do very nicely:

Ooh, wait, I forgot my OLD favorites, Carole King and Laura Nyro.
And lately I was listening to Norah Jones again, and now that's she's not being played to death any more, I can appreciate her again.
