Ray Davies: Not Like Everybody Else (Paperback) by Thomas Kitts (Author) I got my copy in the mail today and I'm really looking forward to reading it. Doug Hinman has a very positive review on the back cover. This was the one review I found on the Amazon website. I ordered from Tower. By Paul Carpenter "Paul C." (Sacramento, CA) Long-Needed Perspective of a Difficult Genius, December 24, 2007
Kitt does a wonderful job of evaluating Davies' fascinating life and brilliant career, which is not an easy task. As Kitt illustrates in the book, Davies has for decades been a notoriously maddening and mercurial figure to the world and to himself, with his ongoing personal quest for self-understanding being the engine fueling his amazing musical legacy. Although his body of work has always stood for itself, Kitt's synthesis of Davies' personal life and a smart analysis of his songs transcends many of the limitations found in previous works, and finally provides a satisfying and comprehensive (to 2007) perspective of this amazing career. Highly recommended for fans of Davies and the Kinks. No photos you HAVEN'T seen before But a very nice collection of 80's pix from Marianne Spellman. Many you have seen on the internet and on the Rhino re-issues of the Arista Katalog.

Only on pg 23, but here is a rather timely quote. Referring to RAY'S habit of taking on many projects at once: "It was especially frustrating to the original Kinks when in the late 1990's Davies contacted them about reuniting. Hopes were high, but as quickly as Davies mentioned the reunion, he seemed to forget about it. After more than a year passed, he raised the possibility again, but after several meetings with Dave, Avory and others, terms could not be agreed." Lots of reliance on Dave's KINK, as well.
