Like Prince did with his new album, Ray is giving his album away FREE in the UK a week on Sunday. It's all of WMC minus the two bonus tracks 'Hymn For A New Age and 'Real World' that will appear on the commercial release a week later. Here's the google news page, with various sources confirming it news.google.com/news?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=RNWE,RNWE:2007-25,RNWE:en&q=ray+davies&um=1&sa=N&tab=wn

Thanks G!.. unfortunatly that link didn't work for me I found it here as well! ;D www.uncut.co.uk/news/the_kinks/news/10457Guardian Unlimited media.guardian.co.uk/presspublishing/story/0,,2189928,00.html Ray Davies revealed today (October 12) that he is to give away his new solo album 'Working Man's Cafe' with the Sunday Times later this month. In addition to the album's release as a giveaway on October 21, the singer is also making an additional track 'Vietnam Cowboys' available as a free download from this Sunday (October 14) as a taster. Davies says of the move to distribute his new album for free that it was an offer he 'couldn't resist. He says: “Personally, it’s about reaching as many people as possible. I'm incredibly proud of this LP and am truly excited that 1.5 million copies will be distributed to people who’ll hear it organically – the way it was intended. It’s an exciting opportunity I couldn’t resist.” Davies' announcement follows in global superstar Prince's footsteps. In July, Prince released his new studio album via the Daily Mail, a first of it's kind. More recently bands like Radiohead and The Charlatans have made their albums available to fans for free as downloads and opened up debate amongst and between the music industry and music fans. The former Kinks' new solo record will also be available to buy traditionally from October 29 - with two bonus tracks; 'Hymn For A New Age and 'Real World'. Ray Davies will be premiering material from 'Working Man's Cafe' as well as songs from The Kinks canon at his headline show for the finale of BBC's Electric Proms season on October 28. *More Proms details are available here. *Download 'Vietnam Cowboys' from Sunday October 14 here: www.timesonline.co.uk/raydavies*More info about the album or Davies' Electric Proms show: www.myspace.com/raydavies

Cheers Smiley!
So to clarify, there are 2 tracks on the shop release that won't be on the free album. These are officially bonus tracks. I'd imagine most of, if not all of, us will be getting the shop release for liners and the 2 exra tracks.
Ray will surely pick up new fans with this - 1.5million of them are getting a free copy of his album, if only a fraction become bigger fans and come along to the forums and gigs, all the better eh?!

I always thought the Times was classier than the Daily Mail. Now I know it is.

I think he means "hear the full album with all the tracks in order." As opposed to ripping off selected tracks.

I always thought the Times was classier than the Daily Mail. Now I know it is. It also could have a lot to do with the fact that The Times is a proper intellectual broadsheet, whereas the Daily Mail is a complete rag!

Although if any UK members here care to pick up an extra copy...or nick their neighbors' giveaway CD, which would otherwise go unlistened to...

Did she go to Nashville, I wonder, or were her vocals added later at Konk?
And again, if any of you in the UK see a discarded copy of this CD in anyone's litter bin...I'd be happy to pay postage etc. to see it put to good use in my CD player.
