I guess it makes sense that Pete would have favourite Kinks songs from the time he was with the band. I know Ray dedicated Days to Pete at Glastonbury very shortly after he sadly passed away, and if I remember correctly (I wasn't there but watched it on TV) he dedicated Waterloo Sunset to him too - maybe Ray knew it was one of his favourites?
A little off subject... I remember reading an interview with Pete and the interviewer was quizzing him about various different Kinks songs and his opinions on them. He asked him about I'll Remember and Pete's response was simply ''I don't!'' ;D

'Animal Farm' has always been one of my very favourites. While I do realize it's not their best song, nor their most ambitious, I love it mainly because of its bridge (Girl, it's a hard, hard world...). To me, that is one of the most emotional and touching moments ever written by Ray. The way he sings it, mixing the uplifting and optimistic with the nostalgic and the sad is just magic to my ears. And those barely audible strings playing in the background are a very nice touch. Then within seconds it all ends and the atmosphere becomes happy and funny again. Just great. Others songs I really love are 'Shangri-La', 'Yes Sir, No Sir', 'Holiday', 'Alcohol', 'Big Sky', 'Mirror of Love' or 'Rosie Won't You Please Come Home'. Lovely critique of Animal Farm, Ovi. You and I share many favorites. I would add : "The Way Love Used to Be", "Strangers" , "This Time Tomorrow" and "Victoria". My favorite albums are those from the mid-60's through Muswell Hillbillies.

Since it is The best pop song ever written: Waterloo Sunset It is isn't it. Nick Cohn first said it publicly in "Awopbopallobopalopbamboom" (one of the very best books on pop music ever written), and Lennie and Iñaki confirm it, so who am I to argue?

If I really have to choose only one, I guess another vote for Waterloo Sunset.....from the words to the music, everything just perfects clicks.
Others...... Fancy, Shangri-La, Alcohol, Ducks On The Wall ;D, The World Keeps Going Round, Til The End Of The Day.......I better quit, I could list hundreds.

I could never pick just one but Young and Innocent Days, Gods Children, Sweet Lady Genevieve and Big Black Smoke are strong contenders!!! It's much easier to choose LPs or is it??? LOL
