Today October 17th/18th (1969) is the 39th anniversary of my first live KinKs show(s).... Friday and Saturday night early and late shows; ( attended all 4 shows ) The Filmore East, NYC... with Spirit and the Bonzo Dog Band..and my life has not been the same since although in 64 when I first heard you Really Got Me that was a turning point too!

Spirit and Kinks on the same bill. Unbelievable. I was a MAJOR Spirit fan and nearly cried when they broke up.

1969 I saw my first Kinks show at the Aragon in Chicago. Also on the bill Frijid Pink and Lee Michaels.
The album Face To Face was the turning point for me.

Yeah the original lineup was absolutley a fantasic band...after Jay left they were still good but definitely down a notch. I saw them later with Jay, also saw his solo band Jo Jo Gunne live, Again Okay but no match for Spirit! They were the headliner that night at the Filmore and although I was really there to see the KinKs and had liked Spirit alot before, I left that show with a new respect for spirit and have been a big fan since. They were absolutely amazing that night!

I saw Fiijid Pink and Lee Michaels too at the Filmore, not with the Kinks though...I think I still have the albums from that era from both of them.
