I picked this up and am almost finished. It's really detailed about the period in which the LP was written. Better than I thought it would be. I learned quite a bit about my favorite album.

I've got that and it's next on my reading list! Glad to hear it's good -- I read the one in that same series about Dusty Springfield's Dusty in Memphis, and it was a real disappointment, Dusty herself was hardly in it at all!

IMHO, this book is good - but not great. I think it's time for me to read it again.

IMHO, this book is good - but not great. I think it's time for me to read it again. The author might not always be objective but I love all the little psychological games that were going on in the kinks world at the time. The banning from america, psychadelic era in high swing, all the different album lineups and cancellations. Then the Pete Quaife fiasco with Days. Days btw should have been on the LP IMO. And I also think it's time to officially re release the Great Lost Kinks album. I have an original vinyl (that I got in the late 70's) but no turntable to play it on.

(didn't mean to hijack thread ) Yeah, that documentary shows up on Bravo from time to time, I always watch it. She was such a beautiful, soulful person. I sat next to a guy at an Alan Price concert a couple years back who'd gone to Dusty's funeral -- he said the public outpouring of love was just amazing. I really wanted that book to tell me more about her, but only about five pages were actually about her, all the rest was about the Memphis studio system and the session musicians etc. What a bummer!
