I was always curious if there was ever a good documentary on DVD or VHS on The Kinks. Recommendations?

The KINKS--YOU REALLY GOT ME-- The Inside Story With Dave Davies www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=7582940Some months ago I got it and it was great excepting for some missing audio on a part where Dave was telling about Cardiff and some other bash-ups, but when I got it replaced (by KOCH, the importer) the new one had the same problem... so they refunded my money after checking all their stock on hand.. However, it's a 3DVD set and that is a small but maybe crucial part, depending on personal opinion.. I still enjoyed it... It's possible they have new stock by now and the problem is fixed.

i have this set as well. its not too bad but i had hoped for more. the history that this band has you would think there would be a great documentary. today on sundance channel there is a 4 hour documentary on tom petty and the heartbreakers. he's not bad but 4 hours? ?

Gulp! that does seem excessive!!
Dave's coming DVD may be the best KINKS-related doc to come down the pike, especially if you've seen the bits he has already presented for download at his site. HOWEVER, it is Dave's perspective. Plus, his comment on the difficulties in "editing out Ray's ego" gives a clue... and it is Dave's life story, not Ray's. "Spiritual Journey Pt.1"...
It's due out very soon..I'm guessing August or Sept, from the hints he has dropped.

I did like the documentary on Ray, "The World Through My Window," though I don't think it's been released on DVD -- and it is, after all, about Ray and his solo career.
I agree, they have so much history, there should be a great documentary. Perhaps too much history to be encompassed in one film! But something like "The Kids Are All Right" did for The Who. Maybe we need to get Martin Scorcese to become a Kinks fan.

Holly, was "The World Through My Window" produced by Ray or some outside entity?
You are so right...it would probably need to be a 10 DVD set...

It was an ITV show, part of some series, I think.

Oh well , I couldn't find appropriate thread for my discovery. So I will leave it here. I was watching the Sundance channel tonight and a movie called "Jackie & Hillary" was playing and caught my attention because I like avante-gard films especially when the husband was doodling his wife's sister because she was going insane and needed some lovin' . Anyhow she was a Cellist and came to visit her sister and after a few glasses of wine they tap on the glasses with pencil and then they have to guess the name of the song they are playing. Well the one sister (the crazy one) says "guess the song I am thinking of without the pencil tap?(they could read each others thoughts) The other sister says "You Really Got Me" by the Kinks she said! Yes! Correct! Then later on the crazy sister (Cellist) is rehearsing with a piano player and they get goofy and break away from the classical music to play "YRGM" Random Kinkness =priceless!

This sounds like a movie Uncleson would enjoy, as I also enjoy this type of avante-garde film.
