MUDCRUTCH... What's the story? Just sounds like more of the same to me.. it's good but why? Campbell on Gee-tar, Tench on Keys, Petty on vocals, choons and now Bass.. and the rest of the original Heartbreakers... um.. er.. MUDCRUTCH Is it a BUY? Anyone got a review? Gonna see Steve Winwood and TP & THE HB's in July! Can't wait! ;D

I got it and did a review, but it never saw the light of web since the guy and column I write for likes to have his pick of the major releases to write up himself. It is a very nice little disc with a couple of standout cuts but I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who isn't a BIG fan of TP&HB already and even among those I think it is so deliberately country that many of them might put it in their bins after a couple of listens. Campbell and Tench are on best behaviour and the songs are short and don't stretch out, and sound a lot like 'Southern Accents'. There is a great cover of Six Days on the Road that rocks nicely, but the rest of it is like a Vince Gil album with Tom Petty singing and less hot guitar, and good harmony all over. I think the idea was to not sound like the Heartbreakers and they don't, but don't really get together a Mudcrutch identity either.

We miss ya Rosie.. come back more often.. especially in Alt Titles. Thanks for the review Frank49... guess it's a TAPE it record??? I LOVE TP but prefer his rocking stuff over his ballads.. just a matter of taste I guess.

I agree with you smiley, about Petty's rockers oveeer his ballads...I loved the Last DJ...reminds me of a Ray sentiment expressed...around the dial actually there quite a few of Petty's themes that really remind me of Ray's sometimes? Well you can't turn him into a company man You can't turn him into a sleeper And the boys upstairs just don't understand anymore Well the top brass don't like him talking so much And he won't play what they say to play And he don't want to change what don't need to change And there goes the last DJ Who plays what he wants to play And says what he wants to say Hey, hey, hey And there goes your freedom of choice There goes the last human voice There goes the last DJ Well some folks say they're gonna hang him so high Because you just can't do what he did There's some things you just can't put in the minds of those kids As we celebrate mediocrity all the boys upstairs want to see How much you'll pay for what you used to get for free And there goes the last DJ Who plays what he wants to play And says what he wants to say Hey, hey, hey And there goes your freedom of choice There goes the last human voice And there goes the last DJ [Instrumental break] Well he got him a station down in Mexico And sometimes it will kinda come in And I'll bust a move and remember how it was back then There goes the last DJ Who plays what he wants to play And says what he wants to say Hey, hey, hey And there goes your freedom of choice There goes the last human voice And there goes the last DJ

No, IM, I haven't heard it yet, have you? Yeah, and I love it! I think through all the album every song is better than the previous one (with probably only one or two exceptions). So the first ones are only OK, but the last three are totally amazing. I recommend it, nothing very new but if you like Steve you will like it.
