Ginnie, I'll also recommend the Kink Kronicles. It has gems like Dead End Street and Autumn Almanac on it. These are classsics that were released as singles. Same for the song "Days" which is essential listening. It also has She's Got Everything which was a B-side and I just love this song.

Wouldn't you know it, "Where Have all the Good Times Gone" was in my head all day. I'll eventually get to the rest of the album for sure. I just know that if I listen to everything right away it will all become scrambled together and I won't be able to properly place them. Right now, it Village Green I'm listening to. It'll take a while to digest that. Next, is Arthur on my list. "Victoria" is becoming my favourite Kinks song. Man, they were a great band.

Ginnie, we look forward to reading your journal over the next few months as you get to know these albums! ;D Right now I'm listening to "The Kinks'. Sounds like a few originals, filled with some R&R standards. I'll have to check to composers credits to see who wrote what. I'm sure they didn't write 'Louie Louie' or 'Too Much Monkey Business' ! One thing, is that by listening to this album, some arrangements are very Beatlesque, like "I Got That Feeling". Who is influencing whom? The album was released in Oct. of '64. I think the Beatles were well established in Britain by that time.

I think you could write an entire thesis on that subject, ginnie. They were all listening to each other's work -- one band would throw in horns, or vibes, or a cowbell ;D and then it would pop up on the others' records. The minute the Beatles did backwards taping on "Rain", everybody else was splicing it into their records. (There's the opening of "Phenomenal Cat" on VGPS). I think you'd really have to sit down and make a big chart to figure out who recorded what first.

Mr. Ginnie actually, but you can call me anything you want for now - I'm new here after all. Where in the GREAT WHITE NORTH are ya, Mr. Ginnie!? BTW.. I have read many times over, that Macca used to get acetates of the Kinks records, before they were released. I know I also read, that he was especially upset, when the song "See My Friends" was released. That East Indian drone sound of Dave's (actually turned down tuning and not a sitar) was recorded before the Beatles got it from George's sitar.
