Hello, I'm a Kinks fan from Brazil planning to see Ray Davies concert next year since he's not very popular here and I really want to fulfill this dream. So I've been thinking to see him in England, at least two concerts. My questions are: 1- What city would you recommend me to go/visit? I want something near to be able to make a short travel. For example: last month he played in London and the next day Southend, is that near? 2- Is it necessary to book the tickets? I'd like to stay as close as possible 3- I saw that many people here had the opportunity to take a picture with Ray, how's that possible? Well, I think that's all. Sorry about my English and I'll be grateful if someone could help Edit: Sorry if I posted in the wrong section.

Hi Waterloosunset I'll try and help a little by answering your questions as best I can! 1 - London is a good place to go if you like the Kinks. I've heard that there are a few reasonably priced hotels in the Muswell Hill area, plus if you stay in Muswell Hill you can go see number 6 Denmark Terrace (childhood home of Ray and Dave Davies) and the Clissold Arms pub opposite their old home (Ray and Dave made their first public performance there and there is a room full of Kinks memrobilia.) You may know these things already but thought I'd mention them anyway! I wouldn't say Southend is near to London but I'm sure you could get there in time by train! To be honest I don't think Ray's recent tour was that well planned as he seemed to be all over the place, but it's always possible to get to a show the next night by train. 2. Dave Emlen's site (http://www.kindakinks.net/) has a tour section. His site is very up to date and you can bet that as soon as a tour is announced for next year Dave's site will have dates, and links for you to buy tickets. You need to buy your tickets in advance to get into the show, you won't be able to get them at the venue on the day of a show. My advice - buy tickets as soon as a tour is announced, if you want good seats! 3. I've managed to get a few photos with Ray. If you want a photo or an autograph you need to wait outside the stage door after a show. You need to be patient though, it can take an hour or two for Ray to come out. He is very kind to fans though. My advice - ask him for a photo nicely and you'll probably get one. If you do come and see Ray you'll be alright. Kinks fans are generally very friendly and I'm sure people would talk to you and make sure you weren't all by yourself Hope this might be of some help to you

If I buy a ticket flight to London I'd be able to do everything without paying lot of money in Taxi or Bus ? I'd like to see a concert in Royal Albert Hall since this place is so famous

Please forgive my late reply Waterloosunset!
I'm afraid I don't live in London, so don't really know if Muswell Hill is near the city centre or airport...but I've been there enought times to know that you can get ANYWHERE in London using the underground train system. Buses run all night to most places but the cheapest way to travel around is by using the underground. I believe that you can buy some kind of special day ticket that allows you to travel anywhere, using any train, as often as you like.
I'm sure Ray will play the Royal Albert Hall next year, he did this year. I've only been there once but it was to see Donovan, not Ray. It's an impressive place!

No worries, you are the only one replying anyway haha Thanks for your help, now I've to only worry about the ticket flight and tickets for the concert at the same time. Off-topic -> anyone know where can I find Pete Quaife's book? (Veritas, online) By the way, nice avatar you have haha, I envy you = p

Good luck! Thank you Another question, how much does the ticket cost? (average of the top one. Of course depends on the venue)

Hi Waterloosunset, I'm sorry, I've only just seen this thread. I live and work in London and Sleepy has given you some good advice I think. The best and cheapest way to travel in London is using the underground and buses. Both are run by "transport for london" and here is their site, which has information about buying tickets www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/default.aspx The best ticket to buy is an "oyster card". The UK and London especially is quite small so it doesn't really take long to get anywhere! If you were staying in Muswell Hill it would probably take you about 20-30 minutes to get to central London and somewhere like the Royal Albert Hall. You can get the underground straight from Heathrow Airport. There is quite a large Brazilian community in London and if you like I can try and find some links to organisations that may be able to help you. Depending on when you plan to come, it may be possible to stay in student accommodation, which is quite cheap (and clean). Please email me if you think I can help in any way.

Is the public transport 24 hours? What's your e-mail? (Send me via PM) I'd appreciate very much your help.

Thanks for all the information, that's very cheap, I'd pay much more That's "good" news about the Pete's book. I thought it was already sold out/ out of print.

That's ok WS I guess £35 isn't bad but it's enough! - when I go to these shows I also have to pay for petrol, parking, drinks, a t-shirt etc, plus if you do more then one show it can end up being rather expensive! Not sure it's exactly good news about Veritas...from what I can gather the guy who took the photo of Pete that has been used on the front cover claims it was used without his permission, and that is why the book is no longer available. I believe Pete's brother David Quaife is trying to resolve the matter so more copies can be published and made available again. Personally I don't have the book and haven't read it.

Well, I know it's not really cheap, but I was expecting something around £100-150 Yeah, I'll probably buy a lot of stuff. What they usually sell? (CDs, Shirts, poster?)

I am very excited to think that you will get to London to see Ray, WS! It's been a long dream of yours and I hope you can fulfill it. Sleepwalker and Chris have given you some very good advice. I bet Ray would like to meet you after a show if you have come so far. There are not many Kinks fans in South America. Ray should be happy to meet one!
