i am waiting for amazon uk to deliver hopefully by 8/30, amazon us won't have it for up to 2 months so i cancelled there and ordered from uk, actually costing me less $$. i am looking forward to getting this, i have a few of the bootlegs that are now on this oficial release. as much as i enjoy the boots i really want to hear the cleaned up, other source live material. i have the christmas concert boot that is not the full show on at the bbc it is, i had a cassette of the hippodrome show i taped from the bbc rock hour years ago, which deteiriorated and eventually snapped. i really want to see the old grey whistle test video promoting sleepwalker, i have a boot called couch potatos which has the audio, crappy sound though, wish this audio made it onto disc 5 but you can't have everything. i am not too interested in most of the tracks on disc 1, i think the kinks hit their stride in '66. i guess the kinks didn't do much bbc work around misfits and i am surprised that there is nothing from soap opera or schoolboys here(1975-76). the remastered soap opera has some live songs on it, maybe a release at a later date? one can hope

I don't think you'll be disappointed Donl; I've enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. I bought it mainly for completist reasons, but it has been a fun listen. Doug Hinman's book lists very little in the way of UK TV or radio performances between '75 and '77 and what there is was done for commercial TV rather than the BBC and definitely not enough for a CD or DVD. Maybe Starmaker will get an official release one day, who knows, but I would think it unlikely

MrL, I had no idea that the remastered Soap Opera has some live tracks on it! The CD I have doesn't

the 2005 remaster has ordinary people, you make it all worthwhile and underneath the neon sign. excellent sound quality the rest of the concert these were taken from are probably in rays vault or a box under his bed ;D ;D ;D

Donl, please forgive me for wrongly addressing you as MrL, really tired today and I don't think my brain's quite in gear Ah, so there's just three extra songs on the remaster of Soap Opera then... You're probably right about Ray, I forget which recent radio interview this was mentioned in, but when asked if there was much unheard stuff in the archives after the release of the new box set, Ray said this new set was just the tip of the iceberg regarding unreleased stuff. He didn't mention whether this stuff was under his bed or not though! ;D

I love how we all seem to fixate on the idea of Ray having a box of tapes under his bed . . .

Similarly but to lesser effect the Golders Green show uses the Radio feed not the syndicated feed. The BBC did not record any Soap Opera material - Starmaker was made by Granada who were part of the ITV network. The live tracks on the Soap Opera re-issue come from the Kinks archive and come from New Victoria Theatre. The oft seen film was a separate venture made for theatrical release - which indeed it did get, albeit a limited one. Brgds. Russell Smith

I finally got around to watching the DVD from the BBC set last night. I intended to just watch an hours worth and save the rest but I was enjoying it so much that I ended up watching it all! Plenty of stuff I'd already seen before and had on other Kinks DVDs, but also some stuff I'd NEVER seen before! I enjoyed the Kinks 1972 concert at the Rainbow, I'd seen it all before on YouTube but it was much more enjoyable watching it on TV. I'd never seen any of the 1977 Old Grey Whistle Test so I really enjoyed watching that. And I'd never seen the 1977 Christmas concert in it's entirity, I'd only previously seen the performances of Father Christmas and The Hard Way. A very lively and fun concert but I do hate that mask Ray wears when he takes on the role of the Headmaster - so creepy! Gotta love Dave's the hats Dave wears during that concert! Oh, and nice interview at the end. I just love Dave's speaking voice...and I always think that Ray's accent sounded a little posh when he was younger...

I am very pleased with this box set. I am digesting it slowly...particularly enjoying the concert material from 1972-1974 currently. I've long loved the Golders Green 1974 gig anyway, nice to get this new version. I read somewhere - on amazon I think - that Ray has said there's a lot more unreleased material that could be released? Not sure how true that really is but it's very tempting to read that!

Stranger, Ray mentioned recently that the stuff on this set is just the tip of the iceberg regarding unreleased stuff! Yes, it's a great set, and very nicely packaged too
