first album i ever bought was the GLKA - i still havent recovered up until i was in my 30's i had met exactly 3 kinks fans in my life
didnt have much money so i tried to be careful and never waste my money on a bad album
when i was a sophomore in high school my second favorite rock artist gave an interview in the melody maker, they asked him if he listened to any other bands
he said all he listened to were 2 albums, the GLKA and Preservation Act 1, Which along with Lou Reed's Berlin represented about 50% of my total album collection
so basically the third fan i knew was Lou Reed only I didnt really know him
Sister Ray is named after Ray Davies, btw

Cool! I never knew that about "Sister Ray."
I saw Lou Reed once on the NYC subway -- riding underground like everybody else. Only with a cool black leather jacket.
Welcome to the board, jtapostate. I can't wait to see more of your posts!

my daughter knows a girl who is named after lou reed she said her father met him once
he is a tad cranky toward pretty much everyone in the world other than julian schnable
her dad was left a little shaken by the encounter
reed even turned on the late great lester bangs when lester finally got a chance to interview his hero
i wouldnt approach him without a cattle prod

I've seen him perform at the annual Tibet House benefit concert, on the same night Ray Davies performed. If the sight of Ray among all those Buddhist monks is amusing, just picture Lou Reed in that setting. ;D Yet he seemed to get into the spirit just fine.

i think his wives mellowed him out or age or a good med regime
he used to say that his favorite place to perform was the palladium because zappa fell into the orchestra pit there and almost died
then for reasons of perversity that only an organization like the rock and roll hall of fame can accomplish they chose reed to induct zappa into the hall
he didnt used to get along with pete townshend either but i saw the two of them together on some show a couple years ago and they looked like they were getting ready to go picking out furniture together
he made that album drella , but saint andy warhol writes in his diaries how hurt and confused he was over not even being invited to lou's wedding
ps - lou reed and ray davies will be studied in high schools 150 years from now, kids will be arguing over who was better, reed, davies, dylan or (marc bolan and al green as well if my great great great grandkids are around )

Welcome aboard tapostate ! Glad you are already in the swing of things! Nice addition that you made to the Power Pop thread with that classic T. Rex tune ! I've posted the all female New Wave of British Heavy Metal band Girlschool's cover of that which I know Martin here loved; a bit too heavy for the Power P thread though!
