Uncleson, you are correct, it is fiction.
Actually, The Dave Clark Five was on more than any British Invasion band including the Beatles, which is why the statement was fiction. Wiki states DC5 was on 13 times in one reference and 18 in another; but made unequivocal statements that they appeared the most.

Ritchie Valens appeared in Alan Freed's movie "Go Johnny Go!." In the movie he mimed two of his songs, "Ooh! My Head", and "Come On, Let's Go."
