Yes him and Jimmy both did, Jimmy is the lead guitarist for the Smithereens who I know almost as long as Dennis.

One of the members of the Smitherines (not sure which one) also played with Dion and the Little Kings--around 10 years ago. They made a fine and largely unknown rock album--available as import only.
Surprising it didn't get released here--they were a NY City band, and with Dion, rock and roll hall of famer, of The Wanderer, Runaround Sue, Ruby Baby, and Abraham Martin and John fame. And they really rocked out.
Dion's first band "Dion and the Belmonts" is referenced in Preservation (see Johnny Thunder). Of course Dion returns the favor in one of his songs from an early 90s albums--he mentions the Kinks in a line about great 60s music. I don't think there are any other examples of a Kinks reference to another band where that other band, in turn, has a song that references the Kinks.
Just a very obscure little piece of knowledge about the Kinks. Not even sure I am right, but I can't think of other examples.
