Hey Frank.. I did the same thing, just yesterday, with our local Classic Rock station. IMO they have been neglecting our favourites for quite some time. I named these songs, as the ones I had heard and played quite infrequently; YRGM, ADAAOTN and LOLA (live from OFTR.)
I listen to this station MOST of the day.. I was quite shocked to read some of this response....
I have never heard Sleepwalker, Rock and Roll Fantasy or..... well, maybe Bad Company's Hi Sharon,
Thanks for taking the time to email. You're right... We don't play a
ton of Kinks. It's funny...and I don't know why, but the Kinks have
always been a polarizing artist.
Lots of people really don't like them
(except for the major hits you list). Because they're such icons in
our opinion, we do find ways to play more of their tracks, by featuring
them on the Thursday Artist Portrait (last time was just in March), Live at
5 (Phil was going to feature them Friday, but we have a huge programming
feature that will pre-empt all the daily features), A Long One at 9
(Christine is actually playing them tonight), One 45 at 1:45, Rock 'n
Roll Roots, The Deep End, our Deep Tracks weekends and our Deep Tracks
stream and HD2 channels. So, it's not that we've forgotten
them...we're just responding to lots of listener feedback, by finding ways to play
them in context of a feature.
Most of these program "Specials" are off prime time On those features we play loads of other tracks...Catch Me Now I'm
Falling, Alcohol, Jukebox Music, Victoria, Destroyer, Dedicated
Follower of Fashion, Gallon of Gas, Til the End of the Day, Well Respected Man,
Tired of Waiting For You, Celluloid Heroes, Low Budget, Superman,
Apeman, R&R Fantasy, 20th C Man, Who'll be the Next in Line...
All those and more have been played on our regular airwaves in the last
couple months.
We're on the same page with you regarding the Kinks, in order to be
able to stay in business we need to balance the likes and dislikes of a huge
number of people. It's tricky, but we know we can never be everything
to anyone. Our hope is that if you generally like what we do, you'll
stick with us. And when we fall short on a particular favorite artist,
you'll satisfy that need with your CDs (like I do!), and come back when
you want the variety and personalities you can't get from your own
collection.
Thanks for giving us the opportunity to address your thoughts...and
thanks for listening!!
