September 21, 1985--At the tail end of their disappointing Under the Skies US tour, the Kinks -- trying to sign to a new label after Arista, and over-optimistically booked into large venues they can't fill -- appear at the United State Military Academy at West Point, New York. The stress of the tour has exacerbated tensions between the Davies brothers to the breaking point. As Ray is singing the ballad "Celluloid Heroes," Dave makes a farting noise with his guitar. Ray, infuriated, drops his trousers on stage and moons the audience. I was there for that! ;D

September 23, 1979--At the Providence Civic Center in Providence, Rhode Island, the Kinks perform the last stop on their massively successful Low Budget US tour. (Opening act: John Cougar & The zone.) The concert is recorded and videotaped, to be immortalized as the film One For the Road.

September 24, 2004 -- Ray Davies starts his first European tour after being shot in New Orleans and after his brother Dave's stroke. He plays at the Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool, where -- along with several VGPS songs like "Village Green," "Picture Book," and "Animal Farm" -- he sings "Death Of A Clown," dedicating it "for my baby brother."
A certain gentleman from Barcelona is in the audience, experiencing his first Ray concert ever.

I've always loved that picture. Ray has such an endearing expression on his face. Clearly he knew he was in the presence of a true fan!
