as usual Ray stole the show ;D www.guardian.co.uk/stage/theatreblo...tregoers-choice" Two 60s legends got the biggest ovation of the evening, though – Bob Gaudio of the Four Seasons, picking up Jersey Boys's Best New Musical award, and Ray Davies of the Kinks, accepting Come Dancing's prize for Best Off-West End production and revealing that it will be On-West End very soon."

Just added to the whats on stage site.... www.whatsonstage.com/index.php?pg=2...st+End%3F%3F%3FRay Davies Comes Dancing Again in West End??? Date: 16 February 2009 Ray Davies’ self-penned musical Come Dancing, premiered at the Theatre Royal Stratford East last September, won Best Off-West End Production in this year’s Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers’ Choice Awards, but might it be in the running again next year? When collecting the trophy in person at Sunday night’s Awards Concert – before moon-walking backwards off the stage – Davies promised “we're coming to the West End very soon”. In the Whatsonstage.com Awards, in which shows with larger audiences have an obvious audience advantage, pieces that start life in a Fringe venue can be nominated again if and when they transfer to the West End. Such was the case this year with the eventual Best New Play winner, David Eldridge’s Under the Blue Sky, which was first seen in a small-scale production at the Royal Court Upstairs in 2000 but only received its West End premiere last year. Set in and around the Ilford Palais in the 1950s, the new musical takes its title from The Kinks' 1983 song of the same name. However, Come Dancing is not a compilation of the band’s hits. Aside from the title song, it features all new music and lyrics specially written for it by Davies, who also conceived the story and co-wrote the book with Paul Sirett. At Stratford East, Davies also made his musical debut, playing himself, who acted as the show’s narrator. By the way, in the press room at Sunday’s Awards Concert, Davies also went on to say that our audience-voted award meant more to him than being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (See WOS TV, 16 Feb 2009). Nice – thanks, Ray!

Everyone here, and over on the gray Ray board and the kinks preservstion society digest all deserve credit for getting Come Dancing to where it is today..and hopefully where it is going tomorrow. Keep it up....we still have to get it to NYC, althought The West End is just one stop short...so keep pushing!!! The whats on stage site is monitored pretty closely by those who are in power in the theatre indusrty so it is important to keep Come Dancing alive there...one way is to post your support for Ray and the play on their discussion forum where it keeps the name at the top of their site...so if you have not done so already do it now by going directly to the thread already in progress there at this link; www.whatsonstage.com/board/index.php?showtopic=5650
