This is exciting news! It looks like Dave is timing this to coincide with
the release of "Mystical Journey." Let's hope the shows don't get
cancelled. ;-)

Both Dave's website and Dave Emlen's Unofficial Kinks site have the same
three dates. All are venues I've been to before.

Feb. 10, B.B. KinK's, NYC.

admission tickets for $30, there are VIP booths available for $50 per
ticket. These VIP booths are not the closest seats to the stage. They are
arranged in various locations around the perimeter of the orchestra seating
area. You can see where the booths are when you place your order on their
website. I got the general admission tickets.

Feb. 12, The Bull Run, Shirley, MA
<http://tickets.bullrunrestaurant.com/> I've been to this venue and it is
very nice. The kind of place that has white tablecloths on the tables. The
sound is good and the staff are great, and they really treat the musicians
well. Tables seat eight so you wind up sitting with strangers (but we Kinks
fans don't stay strangers too long!). When you order tickets you can
reserve the table you want but not the exact seat at the table. I'd
recommend getting your tickets soon because the seats way in the back don't
get the best view. By the way, this venue is In the Middle of Nowhere ...
so much so that you drive over an authentic covered bridge to get to the
parking lot.

general admission the last time but I can't find this gig mentioned on
their website. The rumor is that it is free to get in, which will be nice,
if true.

As of this time it looks like Dave's band will include some of the
original members of his touring band...Jim Laspesa on drums, Dave Nolte
and Jonathan covering bass guitar, 2nd guitar and or keyboards, so far
Dave Jenkins(bass) is not scheduled to be in the band but everything is
subject to change during the next few months. Maybe Dave Jenkins will
shed more light on the subject here since he is on the kps digest.

I was at the local Lowe's today, pricing refrigerators (Nineteen is too
young for mine to die!!), and I was shyly approached at my car by the
guy who was in the parking lot collecting buggies. He said, "I've got
that song. By the Kinks. 'I'm Not Like Everybody Else.' Then he
started to sing: "I ain't gonna walk around like everybody else!" I had
to laugh, and I told him, "You've got it, all right!" There's at least
one other person in Tuscaloosa who's not like everybody else.

Just the second person to mention the bumper sticker in all the time
since I got it from FranK, too!

This is information posted on the Ray Davies forum about the
compilation. I don't know if I'll be getting another digest out
before I return to Maryland, but I wanted to pass this along:

This release isnt a bootleg comp or for fans who already have
everything, it is designed for the European market and is an official
release by Universal. Basically V2 went belly up when WMC was being
released and was bought out by Universal, this meant next to no promo
work was done on WMC other than the fact it was given away for free in
The Times. Ray was never happy about the give away, maybe give away
3-4 tracks but pretty stupid for a whole album you then try to sell
into the shops a few weeks later. In the US it was a different story
as New West put out the album and did do some promo on it.

Because of the V2 situation WMC was never worked in Europe and the
sales suffered because of that. The label said a simple re-rerelease
wouldnt work as they would just look at the previous sales so we
decided a collection would be best.

By putting these tracks together we can push it out around his new
tour dates and have him do some press and promo on many of these
tracks for the first time in Europe. Ray chose the tracks but I
wouldnt expect most big fans to buy it whom already have his two
albums and Thanksgiving Day ep. There are about 5 tracks that Ray did
different edited versions of though. Its for somebody that might own 5
Kinks albums and was curious to what Ray has been up to since they
split.

I didn't quite get what V2 were doing releasing WMC free with a
newspaper, either.

Thinking about it, however, I thought -- perhaps V2 worked out a deal
with The Times and it wasn't given free from V2, but that The Times had
actually paid something to V2 for it using the free disk as an incentive
to sell many more copies of its paper that day.

By telling their advertisers that they expected sales to be much higher
that day due to the disk free with the paper, the paper recevied more ad
revenue; some of which would flow to V2, and on to Ray. So went my
thinking, anyway.

Reading in KPS Digest that Ray was never happy about the give-away,
well, I guess that means my business twist on the event is just a
wishful one.

Subject: Dandy Herman

I had the great pleasure of seeing Herman's Hermits starring Peter Noone
this week at the Pileup in Puyallup (the fair). As always, "Dandy" was
part of the show, and it hit me that the Kinks and the Hermits were not
as far apart musically as their images suggest. I can easily imagine the
Hermits doing "Dead End Street" or "Waterloo Sunset" or "David Watts".
There are a few of their album kuts that are positively Kinky. "Green
Street Green" on the "Blaze" album comes to mind. Anyone who ever
enjoyed the Hermits owes it to themselves to see the current band, Peter
Noone is one of the best entertainers around. Felix Cavaliere of the
Rascals opened this show, and he sounded just as good as he did on those
old records.

The Kinks' chief songwriter and singer, Ray Davies, will drop a CD
come Nov. 10 called The Kinks Choral Collection. The album is pretty
well summed up by its title: It's said to feature new choral
adaptations of old Kinks faves like "You Really Got Me," "All Day and
All of the Night" and "Waterloo Sunset." For the occasion, Davies
collaborated with the 65-member Crouch End Festival Chorus.

Other featured tunes include "Days," "Victoria," "See My Friends" and
"Celluloid Heroes." Kinks kultists should also take note that the
album also offers a six-song suite from the band's beloved 1968
concept album, The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society.
Amazon has preview song snippets out already.

The only question that remains is why didn't he call it The Kinks
Khoral Kollection? Maybe Davies is getting serious as he ages.

shops circa 9 september. I picked up a copy last week. Predictably,
Days works really well arranged for a choir, the surprise for me was
how well Working Man's Cafe comes across.

seeing Kinks music performed in choral arrangements. It's rock music to
me, and if I wanted to see a chorus, I'd buy a ticket to a performance of
Orff's "Carmina Burana".

Herman's Hermits is a group I've long wanted to see but the timing has
never been right. I did go to see Chad & Jeremy a few weeks ago. Much
more enjoyable than I had really expected in a nostalgic kind of way.

The Choir will only be in SF, LA and NYC...possibly Boston. There will
not be a choir on the other dates and I don't know anything about a
second night at the Warfield...I think this information is wrong unless
something has changed in the last 2 days! [Neil: I think we can all
assume that second date was a typo in that first article]

For those of you not able to make these gigs Ray should be doing some
national radio and TV in the US as well.

Ray's band is off today for the Swedish and Norwegian dates which looks to
be great as they have never played some of these places before up near the
North pole. The band for those will be Gunnar, Geoff on drums, Dick, Bill
and Ray with Pilgrim opening those shows except Amsterdam. The band was
sounding great in rehearsals yesterday. Ian Gibbons instead of Gunnar will
be doing the US dates. I'm not sure who the drummer will be for the US
yet.

Also the new Pilgrim cd will be available at those Scandi gigs and online
soon with two Ray original songs on it. Ray provides a little backing
vocals here and there and some guitars as well. It will be coming out on
the Rootsy label in Sweden but we should have some stock for ordering on
Ray's site towards the end of the month when it is released to retail.

with Chorus. However, the solution is quite simple - DON'T GO. That
will save you from the burden of having your rock music polluted by a

I always thought it was "Carmine's Banana," but what do you expect from me?

I was thinking the same thing initially, about the choral thing, although
from the very beginning when I heard Dave's singing voice and saw their red
hunting coats, I knew that these guys were different and I've always
appreciated 'different' things. Mick's drumming and both Pete's and John's
bass-playing (and The Bishop's organ) are so so Kinky. I'm getting all
ferclept here.

When I saw Dave do that fund-raiser for Soroptomist in Glendale, he brought
out the Hare Krishna at half time. That blew everybody's minds....well,
except mine 'cause mine was pre-blown. Many of the hard core Christians in
the audience hauled freight outta there. It didn't really qualify as
'choral' music but it did rival the weirdness of Haley Mills being presented
with an award at the beginning of the show (and the award looked like poop).

So I'm onboard with it down here in S. California. If everything doesn't dry
up and blow away, physically and financially, I'll be there with bells on,
accompanied by our fellow Kinksian Ms. Dutton. I'll be the guy in front,
fighting with the drunk suffering from hyper-gigantism.

There's more of the interview with Ray that was on Norwegian TV last month
here (starts around 18 minutes in).

There's an interview with Ray (in Norwegian) on the adressa.no web site,
to promote his Trondheim concert.

There's are still some tickets left for the Official Kinks Fan Club
konvention, Sunday, Oct. 18 (1pm to 5:30pm, at the Boston Arms in London).
Tickets are #15 and can be reserved through the fan club. Bill Orton also
says, "all booked tickets for collection on the door are of course
definite bookings they do not need to e mail me to re-confirm." Copies of
the new Ray compilation CD will be for sale there, depending on
availability

column about Ray Lovegrove, who was Shel Talmy's chauffeur and a roadie
for the Kinks.

Ray's songwriting course, which was scheduled for the end of November, has
been postponed until next year because of Ray's US tour.

Some interesting items from Ray's recent interviews and concerts:

* Ray has recorded a Christmas song called "Postcard From London" with
the Crouch End Festival Chorus.
* There are plans for a West End production of Come Dancing.
* Ray is planning follow-ups to Storyteller and X-Ray.
* Ray was in contact recently with Julien Temple about a Kinks movie,
with a working title of "The Kinks Story" and based on X-Ray and Kink.
* An expanded edition of the Lola vs. Powerman album will be released
next year.
* Ray and Dave will appear together on the David Letterman show in "a
few weeks".

was joined onstage by Ebbot Lundberg, singer from the Swedish band

Man, I have written this before...

The Kinks played in Australia in 1982, Ray in 1995, and then in 2008 - Ray
did not play in Brisbane either time, a major city (3rd biggest in the
country)....

No visits in between, and no Dave shows.

Hey, what I would give to see any Kinks/Davies shows on a more regular
basis....instead of caring whether there is a choir, not rock music etc,
just go to the shows and appreciate....after all, Ray is 65 or so now, and
Dave has had a stroke........

I've picked up on a rumor that is going around that seems sort of
credible but doesn't sound right or make any sense to me... There is
something going around that Dave and Ray are going to appear on the
David Letterman show in NYC in November when Ray is here for some shows?

After investigating this and talking to a few people I know in different
areas of kinkdom and the kinks kommunity of contacts I have; I think I
traced the source of this rumor to something that got reported in a
Swedish or Scandinavian Newspaper during reviews of Ray's recent shows
there in the past few days, and then translated by someone in to
English who may not have had a grasp on the language and misinterperted
something. None the less the rumor is floating around on the Internet
and web sites and forums, and is on the Dave Emlen News and rumor page
too.

Still I put forth the question directly to Dave on his forum earlier
today, and as of this moment have not received a response, but when or
If I do I expect it to have a lot of swear word in it, and I'm sure
some how someway I will get the blame for the rumor LOL. unless it is in
fact true which I highly doubt. Anyway here is the direct link over
to the thread on Dave's forum where I asked him about it.

Sorry to harp on this but there is still no info on tix for the Boston
show. There are 4 or 5 shows listed for November on the Berklee site but
Ray's isn't one of them. Has anybody got any additional info regarding

Just to clear up the matter, I have confirmed that Dave will definitely
not be appearing or playing with Ray on the Lettermen show. In fact as
of this moment Ray is not even scheduled to be on the show. It was a
complete rumor from the start and was never true. I think it started
when a Swedish news article got translated by someone in to English and
things got misinterpreted.

I found out a bit more...I think it was at the Malmo Sweden show someone
yelled up to Ray on stage " Where's Dave " and you know our Ray, he
never is one to miss the chance to make a witty remark right back from
the stage, and he said something to the effect about him( meaning Dave)
being on Lettermen in a few weeks, and of course by the time the story
went from English to Swedish and back to English again it was Dave
appearing on Lettermen with Ray and I think one of the newspapers picked
that up and that's how the rumor got started....so let that be a lesson
to all of us not to yell up to Ray on stage " Where's Dave ", if you
feel the urge please stuff a paper plate over your mouth! LOL.

The new promo for the UK tv programme Never Mind The Buzzcocks features
Tired of Waiting. Plus Kirsty MacColl's Days introduces the trailer to the
radio programmes about 1989.

I certainly wouldn't say that Ray's performance with the Khoir is
particularly sedate. Anyway, he kan be sedate during his performances with
the band; it all depends on what music is playing. I really would suggest
that everyone tries to katch a Khoir performance at least once and see and
hear for yourself. None of us are getting any younger....

Off to sunnier klimes for a few days, and then to Amsterdam for my first Ray
gig this year! (Apart from the songs on the South Bank in June).

to find the 200 best bands of all time. For me it's no question, but as
our boys have always been underrated, I fear they won't reach the higher

Subject: Julien Temple

Hate to be a nattering nabob of negativism, but what in the world does
everyone see in Julien Temple? Get Spike Jonze or somebody who's
going to make an entertaining movie, not a guy who specialized (note
the past tense) in music videos for Grandma!

I truly have never seen the appeal of Julien Temple, other than he's
got a good feel for the Village Green and other English bits that
don't really appeal to the American masses. If you want to make
money, if you want our boys to generate some interest, get a hot
producer and director (who's a fan) to do this thing.

Personally, I like English things and nostalgia probably more than the
next guy. But we're almost out of time when it comes to generating
mass appeal for our old boys. Do it right, exactly right, just this
one time, and there will be a new interest in the band. Do it wrong,
and you've just spent a lot of money on a vanity project.

I for one am thrilled that Ray will be performing with a choir in New
York City. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can get tickets for
both NYC shows. The Choral CD is magical, a beautiful change of pace
from a brilliant artist who does not stand still. I do not expect any
further choral CDs - although I would be happy to hear more - which
makes this current tour possibly a once in a lifetime experience.
I've seen Ray with and without the Kinks before, and I plan to make
one of the non-choir concerts during this tour, but for me the real
treat will be the unique shows with the choir.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who is Kinda Kool (as in not warm) on the
idea of Choral arrangements of old material. The only hesitation I have is
that I've heard a live performance of just such an arrangement on Youtube-
in fact I think our own Nicole Gentleman was in the audience on that one!
And it wasn't too bad. So maybe I might be a bit more up on the idea if I
heard it and it was super cool sounding. But a tour?

As far as I'm concerned, the only tour I'll shell out for is the Kinks
Reunion tour, if and when it happens. And I suppose I'll support Ray or Dave
if they ever come through my fair city with a band.

To that I note with a bit of mellow irony that Dave was scheduled to play
here and got ill right before that night was to happen.

One thing that is never discussed is how much a blight on Rock N' Roll the
whole notion of the Solo Album has been. Remember when every frickin' member
of the Moody Blues was going solo? Little Steven is right to downplay that
stuff on the Underground Garage. I even get irritated when I see those
Tribute albums, Soundtracks & other such compilation & it has only 1 member
of of a given band. Blah!

So let's focus on these things form now on:

*It's better to burn out then to fade away.
*It's better to burn out than to rust.
*Keep the Faith and DIE for Rock N' Roll!
*What are ya gonna do? Get a real job or something? (SVZ quote)
*And a reunion of a Geezered Kinks band is still one step higher on the
Non-nerd scale (lowest being Nerd, highest being Cool) then a Choral album.
Even if the latter sounds OK for what it is.

I was much more jazzed about Dave hitting the road again than Ray's
project.. I guess I could just be brutally honest & say that the latter made
me feel like I was supporting a dead horse.

To the chosen few---those of you who refuse to listen to the Choir CD are
frankly missing some interesting and different takes on some classics(note
no use of the K). I respectfully understand your decision to NOT listen
to the revised songs. Everyone has an opinion, but for what it is Shangri
La, the VGPS medley, Days, etc are really good. I can listen to but still
don't like too much YRGM and ADATN, just not made for a choir again-my
opinion. I am trying to say, listen to the tunes on YOUTUBE, I am sure
they are there. I understand why you would rather listen to the original
Kink tunes, but to me some of Ray's songs have a sense of spirituality to
them, and are enhanced or come through differently with the choir wrapping
their voices around the melodies and adding a new texture to songs that
benefit from them. Especially the VGPS tunes. These songs have screamed
for some form of re-production, which I think is why Ray re-did Days and
why it sounded so great with the re-make(B side of a single from Phobia-I
think Scattered). THe production or rather recording on VGPS has always,
even when re-mastered, in Stereo or Mono-sounded muddled. The new songs
sound heavenly! Mr Bill

I agree with other comments regarding the Choral Collection, I have the CD
and doubt if I shall ever play it again and I've been a long time fan of the
KINKS. First Kinks / Ray Davies album that I have been disappointed with.

Regarding J Temple film, we need a decent DVD of the Kinks and not the
regurgitated krap that contains the same videos.

Has Ray any plans to release a CD and/or DVD of any of his concert tours?

Not Kinks related, but I found this on Youtube and I believe it's guitarist
whose a member on this list.

Olga was right, Julien Temple's film of the Madness concert of 'The Liberty
of Norton Folgate' was an absolute delight. I was going to mention it but
she beat me to it. He's a zeitgeist man, make no mistake. He may have made
a mess of 'Absolute beginners', but a lot of critics thought the Ray Davies
sequence - 'A quiet life' - its saving grace. His movie 'Pandaemonium',
factually dubious though it may be - he's very much a Coleridge fan, at the
mistaken expense of Wordsworth (they were the Lennon & McCartney of their
age) - seems to me to capture the moment and energy of the birth of the
Romantic movement in England at the time of the French Revolution
beautifully. He'll do for me if we have to have a Kinks movie, and
hopefully it'll be in the vein of Todd Haynes' intriguing Dylan piece, 'I'm
not there'; would Kate Blanchett do Ray or Dave?

And while we're at it, you folks denying the Choral album really should give
it a try. Have faith. The Village Green sequence of songs is worth the
price of entrance alone. As I said a while ago, on first listen start with
track 3.

Subject: Mini Kinks Tour - Saturday, Oct 17

On Saturday morning, the day before the Fan Club meeting, a few of us
are getting together to go on a mini Kinks tour and wanted to invite
others to join us. We expect to be done around noon.

Our plan is to meet at the Tufnell Park/Boston Arms Area at 9:30am.
Across from the Tufnell Park tube station there is the Moonlight Cafe
(231 Brecknock Road, London, 020 7485 5605y) which is open early for
coffee or breakfast. Be sure to have a travel pass or Oyster card as we
will be using buses and the tube to get around.

After we have gathered, the plan is to visit the following places:

Rainbow Theatre
Konk
New Lane Cafe (the original "Working Man's Cafe")
Tour Muswell Hill

Subject: A movie about the Kinks -- you kidding me?

Kinksters: I would love to see a movie about the Kinks, but I have a hard
time imagining such a movie would ever be more than a rock n' roll fantasy
(that is, ever be made). Would Ray ever sign on to such a project? What
would the story be? Would it have a brilliant hard-edge and a valid story
like "Sid and Nancy" (one of the only biopics about a band that I've
admired) or be a loveable romp like "Hard Days Night" (again, one of the
only movies about a band that I've admired)? Would it feature the blistering
sibling rivalry between the bros? Would it be a prolonged music video of
sorts? Who would play Ray? (Robert Deniro?) Who Dave? (Owen Wilson?)
Maybe, it would need, simply, to be a documentary with new and old footage
and interviews.

Dear KPSers:

As a Kinks fan since first hearing them on the BBC when I was in my youth,
I am rather impressed with Ray's choral arrangements of many of my favorite
songs. ( I also long for a "new" Kinks release, in the style we all are
accustomed to.) But, my wife, who is a retired choral and general music
teacher, is also greatly impressed with the choral CD. So much so that
she thinks many of Ray's choral arrangements would make fine additons to any
high school chorus' program, and will suggest the idea to several of her
colleagues still teaching. What a wonderful way to keep the Kinks music
alive! So there may be hidden rewards in the issue of the choral CD, some
of which Ray may have hoped for, since he is such a stong supporter of music
education. Remember, art evolves with the artist.

Subject: Choral show

I was initially reticent about Ray's Choral Show but my now 72 year old
dad, who "chaperoned" my ex-girlfriend and best friend to this day, "Suze",
who is also a contributor to KPS, to our first Kinks concert back in 1977 or
was it 1979, literally had his ears blown apart since we were 7 rows back,
center stage, and Dave was ripping up the joint with his searing guitar.
As strange as this may sound, my dad now wants to see Ray with the choir,
as he became such a fan of songs like Shangri-la, Waterloo Sunset, (His
favorite song is Mr. Reporter, as a matter of documentation, and many of the
songs I've heard that will be performed.

He also wants to see Dave when he comes to BB King's in February! He
already told me that he will bring ear plugs just in case Dave starts to rave,
but it is unbelievable how my old man loves the variations of what the
brothers each bring to all of us. I never saw Ray or Dave solo, but this will
be my first time for both, and I am extremely excited to hear what Ray and a
choir will sound like. His beautiful songs, in my opinion, will
translate very well to this different genre, and who knows what tricks RDD will
bring to us.

I am thrilled that Dave is apparently well, and this is a must-see show for
me, even if I have to now baby-sit my dad and my soon-to-be 18 year old
daughter, who is a Ray devotee. I kept telling her that seeing Dave Davies
live, will be the ultimate experience of her young life!

Also, it will be wonderful to meet some of the folks here that must be
going to both Ray and Dave's show!

God Save The Village Green, and one must seriously wonder if, just maybe,
the brothers will eventually come together, along with Knobby and Mick, and
re-unite for either a studio LP or a US tour? I do not think the fact that
both Ray and Dave are alive and well as well as going on tour, is just
mere coincidence.

In response to Stephanie Dutton's inquiry about Ray at the Orpheum in Los
Angeles... I was curious myself as it's getting awfully close to the concert
date and still no tickets on sale. I called the Orpheum today and asked
when tickets for the Ray Davies concert would be available. The response I got
was a befuddled "Who???" - LOL! So I had to fill in the agent on exactly
who Ray Davies is. She finally said that apparently contracts haven't been
finalized yet, so that's why they're not on sale yet. Hope they get it
together soon or maybe Ray will be appearing on the Santa Monica Pier instead!

Subject: DAVE's not (coming) here.

DAVE's not coming to the Omaha area, unfortunately, but Cheech and Chong
did for the 2nd time this year. They performed at Harrahas in Council
Bluffs, Iowa which is just across the Missouri River from Omaha.

My friend, Jim, and I were sitting in front of the elevators hoping to
get a glimpse of the funny guys on their way down to the hotelas lower
level where the passage to the concert area is. I saw Cheech and called
out his name. He came out thinking it was the lower level (lucky for
us!!!). First I had him sign a Christmas card for DAVE. I explained how
DAVE told me that he and his friends loved to do the "Dave's not here"
routine so I had Cheech write the "Yeah, Dave" part of the dialogue.
Another fan asked, "'THE' DAVE DAVIES?" I said yeah, he loves the skit.
Then I had Cheech sign Ch & Ch's 1st album and Los Cochinos. Then
someone from the show found Cheech and took him to the lower level.

After the show, we hung around the elevators again and eventually Chong
came down to get something from the hotel desk. I explained to him about
DAVE and had him write, "Dave's not here". Chong asked how we got
Cheech's autograph. We told him he came out on the wrong floor before
the show. Chong said we were lucky because Cheech likes to hide. Then he
signed the 1st album, Los Cochinos, as well as the set list. We also got
a picture with him. I donat know if they remembered me from Jan., but
they were very happy to do my DAVE request, Yay! Sorry to ruin the
surprise, DAVE. I'll send you the card and a Tipsy Tree
(tipsytree.net) to KONK before Christmas.

thought I'd chime in my 2 cents worth. I liked everything I heard. I was
with 'em in 1964 getting my guts ripped out to ADAAOTN and '65 to I Need
You. Much of this sounds like the logical maturation of this art form. I
guess it's not for all, beauty being in the eye of the beholder, but the
cuts I heard made me feel good and I believe that's the first thing any
song should do; make you feel.

Subject: Dave Davies Sellersville tickets now on sale

Dave's show at the Sellersville (Pennsylvania) Theater just went on sale.
The date is Tuesday, Feb. 9, the first show of the four scheduled on the
East Coast.

I've never been to the Sellersville Theater but have talked to several
people who have. From what I am told it's a very good venue with good
sound. Here is what I know about the tickets. The seats are reserved. There
are two rows of tables ("cabaret seating") in front of the stage, and then
lettered rows of seats sloping up and away so everyone gets a decent view.
The catch is, the venue reserves the two rows of cabaret tables and the
first four rows of seats for people who have bought a membership. The
membership is $94. You can choose to buy the membership and then can get
seats in the premium section, or you can resist the temptation to spend
that kind of extra money and order tickets from Row F and on back.

At a certain point, usually about two months before the show, the venue
releases any cabaret and first four row seats that haven't been bought by
the members, and the general public can then buy them. If you have
purchased one of the non-member seats you can pay a modest amount to
upgrade to a seat at a table or in those first few rows, if anything is
available, at that time.

And of course the fact that it is a venue with good sound and good
visibility makes sitting up front less crucial even for those who normally
favor the front row, like me. I'm telling myself that I will undoubtedly be
directly in front of the stage for the other three shows, and after all I
_am_ a grownup, so I won't mind sitting way far back for this one .....
does anyone believe me? lol lol lol

Happy Birthday to "Arthur"! As someone who loves to collect the all of
the US and UK vinyl releases of the Kinks, I appreciate the pressing/release
information that Frank has posted.

I have an inquiry about "Arthur" being released in "Mono". I have seen
many LPs of "Arthur" on the original Pye Blue/Black labels, but all of
them are Stereo pressings. Obviously, the data here confirms that this
title was, in fact, pressed in Mono. I had always thought that "VGPS"
was the last Pye LP to have been originally released in both Stereo and
Mono. I am excluding the later 1970 Black and Grey re-issues of all of
the Pye LPs, including the band's debut LP...Has anyone ever seen a Mono
Pressing of "Arthur" which possesses the Blue/Black Pye labels?

By the way, if anyone has an excellent to NM conditioned EXPORT Stereo
Pressing of "The Kinks" (The debut LP) and wants to part with it, e-mail
me at [e-mail] and describe the
beauty and intricacies of said LP.

Subject: Ray in Carre Amsterdam

Just came back from a fantastic show of Ray in Amsterdam's most beautiful
theater Carre.

Ofcourse I wore my Kinks-Kronkles-Tour shirt of The Dave Davies band as sign
that I rather see them both on the same stage again. Not that I was sitting
close enough to Ray for him to see, but it's the thought that counts.

He had a nice dutch Lady as support-act. She was a Joni Mitchel adept and
played some lovely songs.

Ray was supported by just Karen and a very good guitar-player Bill (won't
try to pronounce his last-name, lol). Though I do prefer drums and bass to
accompany him, the concert was great! They played a very enthousiastic gig
which took about 110 minutes. Ray had to work for it, because in the theater
everybody had to sit. I'd rather see him in a rock-temple, but that's more
because I like to stand while seeing a concert of him or Dave.

Highlight definitely was the song Days which he dedicated to the belated
Herman
Gombert and Bobby Graham. Also Celluloid Heroes, Moments and One More Times
were
absolutely gems.

The Play list was from out of my head and in no particular order:
I Need You, Autumn Almanac, Apeman, Lola, Moments (!), Dedicated Follower Of
Fashion, A Long Way From Home, Celluloid Heroes, One More Time, Working
Man's Cafe, Hymne For The New World, The Tourist, Lola, TTEOTD, ADAAOTN,
Dead End Street, Alcohol, Harry Rag, Sunny Afternoon, Morphine Song, Tired
Of Waiting, Set Me Free, Waterloo Sunset and Days.

One little point of criticism has to be made: I allways want to show off
with my idols, and sadly couldn't find ANY merchandising of Ray at all over
there, at least I hoped there were t-shirts, sweaters or caps, but nothing
at all.

Right, time to Have Another Drink..... It was a Good Day Today, and will
wake up with a big smile The Morning After.

Hi all,After seeing frank's post and listening to the song, I thought I'd
say this: As a member of "generation sample" I can say that is one of the
most blatant....uggh, I'll stop there......
What has happened to song writing? at one point someone (ray) had to sit
down and write that melody- which as a songwriter i can assure you is no
simple task.
Don't get me wrong, I love hip hop, but at least someone like Jay-Z makes me
work to uncover the Cold Krush and Jackson 5 samples on his songs, the same
with Fugees using Enya on "Ready or Not," B.I.G. using horns from James
Brown.....the list goes on and on.
Kane didn't even change the tempo on that!

I guess in the end it's a good thing though, because not only does RDD make
it LOOK easy, for some he actually MAKES it easy!

Ellen, you should never be panicked into buying seats you won't be happy
with, especially on a pre-sale. For Ray at Town Hall, there were 2
pre-sales, and from what I could see, better seats were being offered at the
second pre-sale today (Weds) than at the first (maybe because a bunch of
people bought them on the Citi pre-sale and so were out of the buying pool
for the LiveNation pre-sale).

In any event, generally pre-sales and public sales offer a range of tickets
including the best, medium, and worst seats simultaneously, and then more of
each type are released as tickets are sold. This is done purposely to move
the less desirable seats. I've been told this by people in the industry,
and from what I can see, it's true. I very often get offered better seats
20 minutes or later into a sale than at the beginning, so I've learned from
experience not to believe that what I'm offered on my first few tries is the
best available. And then of course there are the later drops, and the
friendly (as opposed to the scalper/broker) secondary market.

Paul du Noyer's book about the music of London, 'In the city' (Virgin, 2009)
has already been mentioned here, but I think it's worth mentioning again not
just because he gives our lads their due and got a couple of decent quotes
out of Ray - he's written well on the Kinks over the years in the British
music press - but also to stress how well written it is and how good the
book is on Ray's influences, on Music Hall, Noel Coward et al. Ray comments
favourably on Ian Dury, Madness and Squeeze. Du Noyer covers the scene from
the Middle Ages right through to rapper Dizzee Rascal (he points to the
music hall parallels) and the brilliance of Madness's 'The Liberty of Norton
Folgate (sorry to go on about this). He even made me think Lily Allen was
worth a listen; she was. Well worth a read - I was entertained and
educated.

Staying in London, again I think Jane 'Je t'aime' Birkin's song 'Waterloo
Station' has already been mentioned in despatches here; it actually mentions
'Waterloo sunset' and gets away with a musical quote therefrom - an exile
visiting home. I stumbled across it because I was looking for something
else, another elegy to Waterloo Bridge. English poet Wendy Cope - think
Betjeman, Larkin, a twinkle in the eye - has a poem, 'After the lunch' that
has been set to music by Jools Holland, Louise Marshall singing with the Big
Band, on his 'The informer' CD of last year, with the new title of 'Waterloo
Bridge'. With a skip in my step I would submit it's a highly infectious and
joyful addition to our musico-psychogeography. (Unofficial lyrics here:

photo of said bridge, with St Pauls in the background)

As it happens, St Pauls is one of the many backgrounds Dave uses in his, um,
absorbing 'Dave Davies Kronikles: Mystical journey' DVD. Much to be said
about this but another time, maybe. What I will say is the Extras include a
cracking live version of 'Creeping Jean'. Anyway ...

Here's to the Boston bash (the Boston Arms, Tufnell park that is) this

It does exist -- I'm pretty sure I've seen it sold on
eBay occasionally. It's a bit rarer than the stereo LP,
and the selling price usually reflects that.

The Arthur mono mix was released on CD in 2004 when
Castle/Sanctuary put out that series of Kinks albums
in cardboard sleeves that reproduce the artwork of
various "foreign" LPs. And it is a 'proper' mono mix,
not just a mono reduction of the stereo mix (but I still
think the stereo mix is better).

I am working on having a new super-duper paper plate launcher made just for
you so the plates reach up to the balcony, but if that does not work you can
read my guide on how to jump off a balcony at a kinks show and live to tell
about it that I wrote shortly after the Infamous March 30th, 1971
Philharmonic Hall Kinks show in NYC, where I did just that...!!! When the
Choral part of the show is over and Ray starts to Rock the Joint I expect to
see you up front and center as usual with all of my other friends. It
wouldn't be the same if I did not look to my left and see your happy face
and that goes for all the rest of the usual suspects and you know who you
are???

Ray In Amsterdam: absolutely stunning (to me, anyway).

I've seen him perform, with & without The Kinks, some 140 times over the
years and this one ranks in my Top3!!!

Unbelievable setlist, more than perfect guitarplaying by Ray & Bill.

Greatest atmosphere (Ray himself said the hall was like a livingroom)

Best moment: When he announced the last song of the show (Days), he
dedicated that one to Herman Gombert, belated guitarplayer with "The
Kinky2". (I was the other one of "The Kinky2") and it sent shivers down
my spine...........

Herman's girlfriend and one of his daughters had packed up all of their
courage to go and see Ray in honor of their friend and father.

They didn't know Ray would address "Days" to Herman. I think they were
rewarded for their utmost courage.

I am trying to remind and convince Ray to bring lots of merch. CD's, shirts,
ect...to sell on this US tour here for his hungry American fans who even Ray
has said have always been the biggest support for the kinks throughout all
their touring days and the same goes for the sol tours of both Ray and Dave
too.

I really hope he brings this new special edition of the Choral album to sell
at the shows, also Collected, The Kinks Box Picture Book Box set which has
not been easy for US fans to get, the 3 CD version of the Village Green
Preservation Society would be nice too, plus Other Peoples Lives and Working
Mans's Cafe. I even told Karin to bring her new Pilgrim CD " Harbour Girl "
on KonK produced by Ray and with 2 songs on there written by him too! Since
I will be at every show on the tour I offered to help sell any merch. in the
lobbies before and after the shows, just not during LOL. I will have also
have limited supplies of the " God save Ray Davies " buttons and stickers to
give out for free at all shows as well.

Hi Dave...

Thanks for the information about the elusive "Arthur" Mono, one which has
somehow evaded my eBay searches. I am blessed to have the original Pye
Export Stereo pressings of the Kinks first LP, "Face to Face" as well as the
extremely scarce "Kontroversy", the latter, which is an incredible sounding
mix. I always loved Mono more than Stereo with regard to the earlier
(prior to "Face to Face") Kinks music.

I would love to hear "Arthur" in mono, just for the heck of it!

Subject: I've done it again, making every show on the tour?

I've done it again even though I swore I wouldn't after last time, but I
will be at every show next month on Ray's tour...got a few first row seats,
some 3rd 4th and 5th rows too, but for those also may have secured one front
row to swap in and out of with others until I get everyone piled up and
crushed at the stage like it was a 1971/72 kinks koncert all over again as
soon as the Choral Part of the show is over and the joint starts rocking!

I am looking forward to seeing all my friends I made on the road since
1969...which reminds me, this is the 40th anniversary of my first kinks
show at the Filmore ast, NYC, October 17th and 18th 1969, I was at both
early and late shows both nights, the first 4 of hundred and hundreds to
kome and nothing in my life has ever been the same since.

Kevin Tyler will be the guest host of Pat Keenan's Power Pop and Punk
Hours radio show on Friday, October 23rd from 6:00-8:00 p.m. CDT. The show
is broadcast from Columbia, Missouri and you can listen to it on
www.kopn.org. The entire two hours except for the first and last songs
(Ramones by tradition) will feature music by Ray, Dave, or The Kinks.
Kevin will highlight Ray's choral album and some live Dave cuts to
celebrate their upcoming U.S. tours and Ray's upcoming U.S. choral album

Thanks to Olga's directions my Wife and I made the KOK show at the Boston
Arms and we had a great time mingling with the crowd and ex-Kinks and the
Show was superb. It was great to see Dalton, Gosling, Debbie, Bob and of
course Ray join in with the band. I will definitely try to go next year.
Also I had the privilege of meeting Dave Emlen.

Hello Kinksters,

This Nov 17th will be my 3rd Ray concert in the last 2 years. I have been
a KinKs fan forever (not even close to FranK). I have shlepped my best
friends, my ex-wife, my son, my brother to countless KinKs/Ray solo shows.
This time around I will enjoy Ray's Boston show with my lovely girlfriend
(her first time). To make this event even more special I will be playing
some KinKs/Ray songs at an acoustical performance on Sunday, November
15th@ Napper Tandy's Irish Pub in Norwood, Mass. I invite all my KPS
brothers/sisters to join me (No cover). The fun starts at 9pm. I hope to
see everyone there as well as Ray's Boston, Mass show.

Come to think of it..I'd like to see Ray at Napper's too. I can dream
can't I?

password--unfortunately, I had a computer glitch and couldn't get in for
10 minutes, so maybe I didn't get the best possible seat, but I can't
really complain about 12th row center.

None of my usual PA-area concertgoing friends could go to this (even
though they all loved Ray's last Tower gig), so I'll be on my own--which
means I'm free to get there early, hang out for a bit, and say hi to FranK

Hey Olga, and everyone. The cd by Madness called ' Liberty Of Norton
Folgate' finally was released here in Canada 2 weeks ago. I never heard
much of their music in the past, but after the 1st listening to, it
reminded me of those early Kink's albums like Preservation 1/2,
V.G.P.S., Schoolboys, etc...

Well, after hearing it now for 2 weeks, I can't get enough of it. I
listen to it all the time, I love it ! ( even my wife likes it, and she
normally hates my taste in music )

Hey Olga, you can handicap music for me anytime! Any idea if that BBC
special on Liberty Of Norton Folgate by J. Templeton will be released
world wide? I'd love to see it.
