Miscellaneous seems the best heading for my post! I was thinking last night (plagued by insomnia as usual, "Too Much on My Mind"...) about Ray's lyrics and the millions of ways they appeal to me. Besides the nostalgia, cynicism, humour, insightful character portraits ...etc. etc. and his clever use of the English language - rhyming, metaphors, alliteration, assonance, just to mention a few banal aspects (this guy was working class?? How can he sound so educated?? But in a down-to-earth way! I've read Xray and am even more amazed by it all), I was thinking about the unexpected (so they seem to me, anyway) lines he throws into songs, which always make me smile...sometimes they provide comic relief in a song about a "serious" subject and sometimes they even seem a bit ridiculous, but it's part of Ray's magic! Examples that come to mind: End of the Season: Though you are hot, forget me not (pretty silly!) Art Lover: She can't see me staring at her because I'm always wearing shades (and I love the video where he puts on sunglasses while singing this line...sigh...!) A Little Bit of Abuse: So uncouth, excuse me is this your tooth (!!!) Life on the Road: ... I searched night and day to catch a kissable lady, but all that I caught was a cold (!!!) Not to mention the size 28 jeans in Low Budget... I wish I could thank R.D. in person for the (much needed) light he has brought to my life in the past few months!!!

How true, Michelle, how true! One of my favorite such lines is in a more recent song, "Other People's Lives": I can't believe what I just read / Excuse me, I just vomited."

So true, I think you opened up a can of worms with this one Michelle!
"I tried to kiss her, she walked away, She said "Better stop, my husband's coming to collect me today".
"Collect me"? ;D

I think that's a fairly common British usage -- though probably of a different generation. But it hardly matters; with Ray's fluttery falsetto delivery, it's priceless!

One of the things I remarked from the very start (and one of the many reasons I'm such an adoring and enthusiastic fan) is how Ray adapts his voice, the mood and tone of his singing to fit the songs and the characters. When I was still just at the beginning of my Kinky experience, I mentioned how he sang the different characters in Yes Sir, No Sir. Other songs that spontaneously come to mind are Cricket, when he sings the vicar, other songs from Preservation like Sitting in the Midday Sun, Apeman, Holiday....the list is endless. Then I started seeing videos, too, and how he uses body language...let's just say that Ray is completely unique, I think we can all agree on that!!!!

That is also what attracted me to RD and the KinKs. Ray is able to adapt his style of singing to his song and absolutely change his voice style, pitch and delivery. Not to mention his "fluttery falsetto delivery" is probably my absolute favourite. My daughter knows this for a fact, as she has personally seen me swoon. te he. Me tinks a few floozies here have also seen that happen. LOL!!

Welcome to the club of swooners...sometimes when I hear Ray's voice and his "special effects", my legs turn into jelly, my heart starts beating wildly, my vision blurs and my head spins...among other things...I don't know if there's a scientific term for this. ;D

Are there any TRUE BLOOD fans out there? We need to promote "Voodoo Walk" as a guest song for one of the episodes. It would be a a perfect song for the show.

Thanks for posting this, Smiley -- we already discussed this on the News section. And I'm sure Frank will come on here as well to remind us that this all happened back in December and Ray is feeling fine now. Even though I have already said it, Frank will repeat it.
