This was their first LP after their Greatest Hits LP (which came with a comic book, "the Story of Canned Heat"). I believe it was released shortly after Alan Wilson's passing. I think there was a problem at the time with it's release due to the depiction of old glory appearing upside down.

;D Selling shoes Another loser working in a shopping mall 9 to 5 A slave driver telling me "Get on the ball!" A crowded store I kneel before them Misery beyond compare Sweaty socks A lady boxer What's she got against fresh air? I want an ocean and some sunscreen lotion Take me to the beach with a thousand pretty girls in reach I, I, I wanna be a lifeguard (help, help, help, help) I, I, I wanna guard your life I, I, I wanna be a lifeguard (lifeguard, lifeguard) Hardly any clothes (lifeguard) Sand between my toes (lifeguard) White stuff on my nose Selling shoes Another loser working in a shopping mall I'm getting fat What does it matter? Nobody cares at all But next July, I'll say goodbye to every out-of-it, dull-witted fool Convert their feet into meters, marking distance at the swimming pool Summer blondes revealing tanlines I'll make more moves than Allied Van Lines I, I, I wanna be a lifeguard (be a big man, now...get a great tan, now) I, I, I wanna guard your life I, I, I wanna be a lifeguard (lifeguard, lifeguard) Sitting on my chair (lifeguard) In the salty air (lifeguard) White stuff on my nose I, I, I wanna be a lifeguard (help, help, help, help) I, I, I wanna guard your life I, I, I wanna be a lifeguard (lifeguard, lifeguard) Lounging on the deck (lifeguard) Whistle 'round my neck (lifeguard) White stuff in my nose I, I, I wanna be a lifeguard (lifeguard, lifeguard)

I've been waiting for years to buy a brand new cadillac But now that I've got one I want to send it right back I can't afford the gas to fill my luxury limousine But even if I had the dough no one's got no gasoline
I went to my local dealer to see if he could set me straight He said there's a little gas going but I'd have to wait But he offered some red hot speed and some really high grade hash But a gallon of gas can't be purchased anywhere for any amount of cash

One Saturday I took a walk to Zipperhead I met a girl there And she almost knocked me dead Punk rock girl please look at me Punk rock girl what do you see? Let's travel round the world Just you and me punk rock girl
I tapped her on the shoulder And said do you have a beau? She looked at me and smiled And said she did not know Punk rock girl give me a chance Punk rock girl let's go slamdance We'll dress like Minnie Pearl Just you and me punk rock girl
We went to the Phillie Pizza Company And ordered some hot tea The waitress said "Well no We only have it iced" So we jumped up on the table And shouted "anarchy" And someone played a Beach Boys song On the jukebox It was "California Dreamin'" So we started screamin' "On such a winter's day"
She took me to her parents For a Sunday meal Her father took one look at me And he began to squeal Punk rock girl it makes no sense Punk rock girl your dad is the Vice President Rich as the Duke of Earl Yeah you're for me punk rock girl
We went to a shopping mall And laughed at all the shoppers And security guards trailed us To a record shop We asked for Mojo Nixon They said "He don't work here" We said "If you don't got Mojo Nixon Then your store could use some fixin'"
We got into a car Away we started rollin' I said "How much you pay for this?" She said "Nothing man, it's stolen" Punk rock girl you look so wild Punk rock girl let's have a child We'll name her Minnie Pearl Just you and me Eating fudge banana swirl Just you and me We'll travel round the world Just you and me punk rock girl

Mark Hart - Many Roads
There are many roads to take and you meet them one by one Infatuation takes its toll on the bearings of the heart The driven snow, it may be pure But you're bound to slip and fall
I don't spend my time contemplating moments with you I don't spend my time regretting words that I didn't choose to tell you
Tomorrow is another day and today is yesterday's hope The poor victims of the past runmage through old photographs Must be a reason for all this I've been stripped of my pride and joy
I don't spend my time contemplating moments with you I don't spend my time regretting words that I didn't choose to tell you

Words and music by John Kay, Jerry Edmonton, Nick St. Nicholas and Larry Byrom
(Monster) Once the religious, the hunted and weary Chasing the promise of freedom and hope Came to this country to build a new vision Far from the reaches of kingdom and pope Like good Christians, some would burn the witches Later some got slaves to gather riches
But still from near and far to seek America They came by thousands to court the wild And she just patiently smiled and bore a child To be their spirit and guiding light
And once the ties with the crown had been broken Westward in saddle and wagon it went And 'til the railroad linked ocean to ocean Many the lives which had come to an end While we bullied, stole and bought our a homeland We began the slaughter of the red man
But still from near and far to seek America They came by thousands to court the wild And she just patiently smiled and bore a child To be their spirit and guiding light
The blue and grey they stomped it They kicked it just like a dog And when the war over They stuffed it just like a hog
And though the past has it's share of injustice Kind was the spirit in many a way But it's protectors and friends have been sleeping Now it's a monster and will not obey
(Suicide) The spirit was freedom and justice And it's keepers seem generous and kind It's leaders were supposed to serve the country But now they won't pay it no mind 'Cause the people grew fat and got lazy And now their vote is a meaningless joke They babble about law and order But it's all just an echo of what they've been told Yeah, there's a monster on the loose It's got our heads into a noose And it just sits there watchin'
Our cities have turned into jungles And corruption is stranglin' the land The police force is watching the people And the people just can't understand We don't know how to mind our own business 'Cause the whole worlds got to be just like us Now we are fighting a war over there No matter who's the winner We can't pay the cost 'Cause there's a monster on the loose It's got our heads into a noose And it just sits there watching
(America) America where are you now? Don't you care about your sons and daughters? Don't you know we need you now We can't fight alone against the monster

Father and Son - Cat Stevens
Father-- Its not time to make a change, Just relax, take it easy. You're still young, thats your fault, There's so much you have to know. Find a girl, settle down, If you want you can marry. Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy.
I was once like you are now, and I know that it's not easy, To be calm when you've found something going on. But take your time, think a lot, Why, think of everything you've got. For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not.
Son-- How can I try to explain, when I do he turns away again. It's always been the same, same old story. From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen. Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away. I know I have to go.
Father-- It's not time to make a change, Just sit down, take it slowly. You're still young, that's your fault, There's so much you have to go through. Find a girl, settle down, If you want you can marry. Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy. (son-- away away away, I know I have to Make this decision alone - no)
Son-- All the times that I cried, keeping all the things I knew inside, It's hard, but it's harder to ignore it. If they were right, I'd agree, but it's them you know not me. Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away. I know I have to go. (father-- stay stay stay, why must you go and Make this decision alone? )

May You Never -- John Martyn
And may you never lay your head down Without a hand to hold May you never make your bed out in the cold.
You're just like a great strong brother of mine You know that I love you true And you never talk dirty behind my back And I know that there's those that do.
Oh please won't you, please won't you Bear it in mind Love is a lesson to learn in our time Now please won't you, please won't you Bear it in mind for me.
And may you never lay your head down Without a hand to hold May you never make your bed out in the cold.
Well you're just like a good close sister to me You know that I love you true And you hold no blade to stab me in the back And I know that there's some that do.
May you never lose your temper If you get in a bar room fight May you never lose your woman overnight
May you never lay your head down Without a hand to hold May you never make your bed out in the cold.
May you never lose your temper If you get in a bar room fight May you never lose your woman over night May you never lose your woman over night May you never lose your woman over night.

Yes Volunteers is a great album...and not only the title song but that does say it all...
Look what's happening out in the streets Got a revolution Got to revolution Hey I'm dancing down the streets Got a revolution Got to revolution Ain't it amazing all the people I meet Got a revolution Got to revolution One generation got old One generation got soul This generation got no destination to hold Pick up the cry Hey now it's time for you and me Got a revolution Got to revolution Come on now we're marching to the sea Got a revolution Got to revolution Who will take it from you We will and who are we We are volunteers of America

Procol Harum - Conquistador
Written by Gary Brooker / Keith Reid
Conquistador your stallion stands in need of company and like some angel's haloed brow you reek of purity I see your armour-plated breast has long since lost its sheen and in your death mask face there are no signs which can be seen
And though I hoped for something to find I could see no maze to unwind.
Conquistador a vulture sits upon your silver shield and in your rusty scabbard now the sand has taken seed and though your jewel-encrusted blade has not been plundered still the sea has washed across your face and taken of its fill
And though I hoped for something to find I could see no maze to unwind.
Conquistador there is no time I must pay my respect and though I came to jeer at you I leave now with regret and as the gloom begins to fall I see there is no, only all and though you came with sword held high you did not conquer, only die
And though I hoped for something to find I could see no maze to unwind.

Steppenwolf - It's Never Too Late
Written by John Kay / Nick St. Nicholas
Your eyes are moist, you scream and shout As though you were a man possessed From deep inside comes rushing forth All the anguish you suppressed Up on your wall hangs your degree Your parents craved so much for you And though you're trained to make your mark You still don't quite know what to do
It's never too late to start all over again To love the people you caused the pain And help them learn your name Oh, no, not too late It's never too late to start all over again
You say you've only got one life to live And when your dead your gone Your family comes to your grave And with tears in their eyes They tell you, you did something wrong "You left us alone"
Tell me who's to say after all is done And you're finally gone, you won't be back again You can find a way to change today You don't have to wait 'til then
It's never too late to start all over again
Well, it's much too late to start again To try and find a little bliss So on your woman and your child You release your bitterness You drift apart some more each day You feel the guilt and loneliness And the God of your childhood you can't find To save you from your emptiness
It's never too late to start all over again To love the people you caused the pain And help them learn your name Oh, no, not too late It's never too late to start all over again
