I bet you never who that Freaky Frank has more than Ray and Dave on his radar.... query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9506E4DD133EF93BA2575BC0A960958260Jerry Lewis: The Good, the Bad, the French Farces E-MAIL Print Reprints Save Share Linkedin Digg Facebook Mixx Yahoo! Buzz Permalink Published: August 18, 1996 Tonight, the Arts and Entertainment Network presents a special two-hour ''Biography'' on America's favorite brilliantine-haired comic, Jerry Lewis. Unfortunately, the otherwise-fine program -- produced with Lewis's cooperation -- ignores or scarcely mentions various projects that Lewis would rather forget. Fortunately, Jerry still has fervent fans who (meaning no harm) want it all. A case in point is Frank Reda, a 45-year-old devotee from Yonkers who obsessively collects anything Jerry. Here's his tour of the forbidden zone. 'The Jazz Singer' Lewis has said he was ''too young'' when he starred in this 1959 television remake of the Al Jolson classic and has decreed that it will never be seen again by the public. Enter Reda, who met his idol at a 1993 Long Island concert appearance, where he couldn't resist boasting that he owned a bootleg copy. Lewis grew livid, but Reda placated him with a gift: an unusual Japanese L.P. featuring Lewis and Danny Kaye. The 'Lost' French Films After a 1984 heart attack, Lewis jetted to France to film two lowbrow comedies. His physical hilarity, unfortunately, is eroded by a French overdub of all his dialogue. Reda owns both films and a rare poster printed for one of them, ''Hold Me Back Or I'll Have An Accident.'' He shared tapes of both with Lewis's son, Gary. ''I told him, 'Don't tell your dad or he'll kick your $(tail$),' '' says Reda. 'Slapstick' of Another Kind Lewis has described this 1984 adaptation of the Kurt Vonnegut novel ''Slapstick'' as ''a terrible mistake.'' He and Madeline Kahn star as teen-age alien twins on a mission to solve Earth's problems, with support from a ''Love Boat'' dream team: Merv Griffin, Jim Backus, Pat Morita, Orson Welles and Marty Feldman. Despite high expectations, the movie vanished faster than a speeding U.F.O. ''It's not really good,'' Reda admits. ''I guess it was a lull for him.'' 'The Day the Clown Cried' It is believed that Lewis owns the only complete print of this unreleased 1972 Swedish film about a clown (Lewis) who entertains children in a Nazi death camp. A collector's Unholy Grail, the film has been tied up in court for years. (''Biography'' obtained a brief piece of on-the-set footage.) Reda says he was once phoned by an unidentified European who offered to swap a bootleg ''Clown'' for ''The Jazz Singer.'' ''I told him to fly right over,'' he sighs, ''but I never heard from the guy again.''
