I've been playing Arthur allot lately. It is such a magnificent album. The arrangements are great, and the songs beautiful, and so thoughtful. Ray and Dave really got into it, and The Kinks are in top form.

I'm afraid I'm one of those people who love lists (even though I go through agony and turmoil trying to compile them) None the less, here are my top 5's in order The Pye years (Reprise in The States) 1.VGPS 2.Something Else 3.Lola Vs Powerman etc 4.Arthur ... 5.Face to Face Honourable mention Kinks Kontroversy. The RCA years 1.Schoolboys in Disgrace. 2.Muswell Hillbillies. 3.PA II 4.Soap Opera 5.Showbiz Honourable mention Celluloid Heroes Arista years 1.Word of Mouth 2.Sleepwalker. 3.Misfits. 4.Low Budget. 5.Give the People What They Want. Honourable mention One for the Road. Obviously, while some will never leave my top five, others drift in and out, and the order changes almost daily, but these are my lists as they stand today. I will try to compile a favourite songs list, but right now my brain hurts

How clever, dividing up the eras so that you can have 18 top 5 albums!

it is the ones I listened to when I was growing up
VGPS Arthur Lola MHillbillies (although I did play the live versions a lot as I loved the Mike Cotton Sound) PA Soap Opera
oops too many, I got Percy to, never listened to it as much though. Strange when teenagers in Oklahoma are screaming along to Victoria in the age of Nixon and Vietnam. All the books say this is a dead period for the Kinks, strange, this period had a good following where I grew up.

I am very new to The Kinks, having only 'discovered' them this summer. I am 32, and I had heard the hits, Lola, really got me, etc..., but I never really thought The Kinks were a band I would want to find out more about.
But having been exposed to Arthur this summer I became an instant fan. Here are my top five records, but I've really only experienced five =) :
1. Arthur 2. Lola vs. Powerman and the Moneygoround 3. VGPS 4. Muswell Hillbillies 5. Face-to-face
As far as favorite songs:
1. Mr. Churchill says 2. Arthur 3. The Contenders 4. This TIme Tomorrow 5. Muswell Hillbilly
