WHAT A SHOW !!!!!!!!!!
We made the trip back home late this afternoon so I didn't have time to put pics on the internet. But there will be plenty of them soon.
First, the playlist. The first 4 or 5 songs come in the right order but the rest are pretty mixed up. But I think I've got all the songs that were played.
1. I Need You
2. I'm Not Like Everybody Else
3. Wher Have All The Good Times Gone
4. Till The End Of The Day
5. After The Fall
6. The Tourist
7. Dead End Street
8. Working Man's Café
9. Sunny Afternoon
10. Morphine Song
11. Tired Of Waiting
12. Dedicated Follower Of Fashion
13. See My Friends
14. Set Me Free
15. Hymn For A New Age
16. Vietnam Cowboys
17. All Day And All Of The Night
18. You Really Got Me
We arrived at the Black Bear Pub at 5:00 in the afternoon for our get together and had lunch and a few beers. The weather was perfect and we all talked of our passsion for the music of Ray and the Kinks until 8:00.
We then walked our way to the Black Sheep Stage to find a crowd of people quietly sitting in their chairs, and I mean chairs right against the fence in front ot the stage. We decided that our ATTACK would come from the right side of the stage. Sorry for all those who thought they would be sitting in the front row, but we all made our way to that fence and protected our territory.
Here’s the lineup of our Special Squad : Alain , Pablo, Paul and Eliane, June and Kurt, me and girlfriend Suzanne and her daughter Janika. We were armed with paper plates and we made the rules. As promised, Ray saw our Special Frank Lima Plate and asked if you were there Frank ! But he then mentionned you couldn’t make it to the Ottawa show, as if he had been informed.
It really was an acoustic show until the very end when the Shelby Lynne band joined in for All Day And All Of The Night and You Really Got Me. It was great seing Ray doing a very intimatekind of performance and Bill Shanley proved to be the guy Ray needed fot that kind of show. What a fabulous guitar player he is , and very good on the vocals also. He really impressed me !Ray seemed to be having a great time and offered a solid performance. The crowd responded very well when invited to join in the singing.
After the show, we had a chance to talk to Bill Shanley and had pictures taken with him. I can tell you he’s a very nice guy. We then were asked to leave by 2 stupid security guards who took their job a little bit too seriously, although they looked like 2 poor guys doing the job on a voluntary basis. They pushed us away and were just about to call up the police.
When then decided to form our TACTICAL SQUAD : Alain, Pablo, Suzanne, Janika and I . We found a huge cardboard and wrote on it : RAY AUTOGRAPHS PLEASE. When we saw what seemed to be Ray’s hat in a van . . . we CHARGED , one with the cardboard held high, another with the UK flag, the others showing things we wanted to be autographed.
As we got close to the van, it was clear there was a state of PANIC inside the car. One trying to turn off the roof light, the other slamming the door. But Ray told them to wait a minute and got out of the van.
We’ve had a chat with our man, our things were autographed, and pictures were taken .
All I can say is : WE’LL NEVER FORGET HOW NICE YOU WERE RAY !
