The Applause emoticon can be added by whomever starts a new thread. It has no official significance. Other symbols such as the flames (for a "really hot" thread) or the lock (for a thread that's been closed to new comments) reflect a certain functionality, but the clapping man is just optional decoration.

Greetings!! Check out your very own "welcome thread" a few threads down in this section. And our discussion about Ray's Olympics performance is in the third section of the forum, under the category Ray Davies.

Welcome, daveindago! Hilo is a beautiful lush city -- you're lucky to live there. The Kinks had a great vacation in Hawaii back in the 1960s, commemorated in their song "Holiday in Waikiki." I bet Ray would ike to return. Maybe he will, once he knows he's got fans there!

It certainly is a great compilation! It's great to see you say so!
I knew two Kinks songs I loved, and both were on there ( Here is it again) so it seemed to be the clear choice for me as a first album to buy...I was so happy that both songs would be on the same album. When I listened to the album, I loved all the songs, and knew the Kinks were not a band where the "best of" album would be enough...I'd need them all! The songs I loved already were Father Christmas and Come Dancing. I knew the sound and chorus of Lola and You Really Got Me, but the first time I really heard them was on this compilation, in their high energy "One For The Road" versions! I later bought To The Bone when it was brand new. I first learned that it existed by seeing the display for it in the music store, and that very day I bought it right from that display. I mention this so I can say how very impressed I was with that album as well, and YRGM and Lola were just as great on To The Bone as they were on One For The Road! The Kinks never lost a step!
