At least we beat out the Eagles... 20) The Kinks Kronikles--The Kinks: What makes this 2-LP collection so intriguing is how it avoids the songs you might expect. No "You Really Got Me" or "All Day and All of the Night" and lots of songs that would never make it to radio even if the radio station owner's last name was Davies. But in terms of the road less traveled, an alternate secret history, well, this is one long confusing garden path that leads to patches of poison ivy and long afternoons of tea along the English countryside. Nice point he makes about not having the obvious songs. However, I'm not sure that describing it as a confusing path that leads to poison ivy is a good thing.

IT'S ABOUT BLEEDIN TIME! Sipppin my tea, whilst applying Calamine lotion to my wounds. It truly is, and a surprise to see the Kinks that high in any list. I think it's the first time I do. Am I suposed to know the guy who made the list? L

I finally know why I always reacted so bad to poison ivy ! And being more a coffee than a tea man surely explains the fact that I'm still alive. ;D ;D Richard

Any good feeling I had seeing this classic set make this guy's 'best of the best of' list went pretty much up in smoke when I saw The VeryBest of Prince and a Black Sabbath compilation in the top 13, and Beatles '1' on top instead of buried below Pink Floyd. I did a bunch of reviews for Amazon and noticed a few guys that love the Kronikles so much that they toss Face to Face on the heap as needless if you get this set instead. I disagree, I think the Kronikles are a good stand alone set, with some good B sides and stateside rarities (at the time it came out). A true fan of the best music of the late 60s must have every Kinks release from Kontroversy through Hillbillies as well.

You're right there, Frank. Personally I think that the more obscure tracks are the reason WHY I'm a Kinks fan.

The Kink's library of work is both GREAT in quality and quantity. The 'trip along the garden path' has been a magnificent journey. Each stop has been absolutely delightful, and has provided nourishment for the soul, as well as encouragement in life.
Its great to see The Kinks making a list, although they should have placed higher on it!
